Voices of IP: Glenn Cross, AusBiotech
Glenn Cross is COO of AusBiotech, Australia #39;s industry organization for biotechnology, medical devices and diagnostics. Australia is well on its way to being a biotechnology leader, playing home to the largest stem cell company in the world. Cross believes that "intellectual property is the basis and core of all biotech companies. If you don #39;t have intellectual property that is adequately protected, then you really are going to struggle to get investment, and without that investment, you #39;re not going to grow."From:GlobalIPCenterViews:1 0ratingsTime:01:50More inEducation

21-Pharmaceutical BiotechnologySG Part Ib. Emergent Technologies DNA-based Biotechnology.mov
With Recombinant DNA Drug development pharmaceutical biotechnology embraces the tools of genetic modification for new therapies. Similar to the technology introduced in the Agricultural Biotechnology section of this course, gene constructs can be made using DNA from different sources to make high value proteins that can be produced as injectable drugs. Insulin was one of the first recombinant DNA drugs to be made this way. Notice that recombinant insulin does not draw nearly the controversy as genetically modified tomatoes (even though they use the same technology). in this part we also examine the use of this technology for antibody based drugs and new vaccines. From:Albert KauschViews:5 0ratingsTime:01:00:06More inEducation

22- Pharmaceutical BiotechnologySG Part IIa. Pharmaceutical Biotechnology In the Genomics Era.mov
A genome is all the DNA in an organism, including its genes. Genes carry information for making all the proteins required by all organisms. What does it mean to the pharmaceutical enterprise to know all of the genes in humans, and other organisms? How does being able to rapidly and affordably sequence DNA affect our diagnostic capabilities and abilities to treat diseases, develop new vaccines and identify new emerging pathogens? From:Albert KauschViews:2 0ratingsTime:32:05More inEducation
