Dr. Alan Lockwood presents: "The Silent Epidemic: Coal and the Hidden Threat to Health" – Video

Dr. Alan Lockwood presents: "The Silent Epidemic: Coal and the Hidden Threat to Health"
On November 1, the American University in Kosovo had the honor of welcoming Dr. Alan Lockwood for a presentation of his recent book, "The Silent Epidemic: Coal and the Hidden Threat to Health". The forum addressed coal pollution, one of the most concerning issues threatening the planet today. Dr. Alan Lockwood, who is Emeritus Professor of Neurology and Nuclear Medicine at the State University of New York at Buffalo, documented the harmful effects that coal pollution has society #39;s health. He went on to describe how our dependency on this fuel is negatively affecting our individual health as well as permanently damaging the environment by way of global warming. Staggering statistics and studies show how the use coal as an energy source is slowly deteriorating the planet around us. Research to find safer alternatives should continue to be pursued globally. While the book concentrated on the effects of coal pollution in the United States, it was clear that many of those issues are prevalent in Kosovo as well. Because the coal industry is very prominent in Kosovo, a presentation on such a topic was of interest to both the faculty and students of the AUK community. Although this is an ongoing battle we have to face, education on such issues is the first step towards finding a solution.From:aukonlineuniversityViews:3 0ratingsTime:01:01:13More inEducation
