American Heart Association reports telltale visible signs of aging may predict heart disease
If you look old, your heart may feel old, according to research presented at the American Heart Association #39;s Scientific Sessions 2012. In a new study, those who had three to four aging signs mdash; receding hairline at the temples, baldness at the head #39;s crown, earlobe crease, or yellow fatty deposits around the eyelid (xanthelasmata) mdash; had a 57 percent increased risk for heart attack and a 39 percent increased risk for heart disease. "The visible signs of aging reflect physiologic or biological age, not chronological age, and are independent of chronological age," said Anne Tybjaerg-Hansen, MD, the study #39;s senior author and professor of clinical biochemistry at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. Researchers analyzed 10885 participants 40 years and older (45 percent women) in the Copenhagen Heart Study. Of these, 7537 had frontoparietal baldness (receding hairline at the temples), 3938 had crown top baldness, 3405 had earlobe crease, and 678 had fatty deposits around the eye. In 35 years of follow-up, 3401 participants developed heart disease and 1708 had a heart attack.From:mastercreator1000Views:0 0ratingsTime:01:24More inScience Technology

Marine Biogeochemical Cycles - Open University,
ll4.me Marine Biogeochemical Cycles - Open University, This Volume belongs to a series on Oceanography. It is designed so that it can be read on its own, or used as a supplement in oceanogrphy courses. After a brief introduction to sea-floor sediments, the book shows how the activities of marine organisms cycle nutrients and other dissolved constituents within the oceans, and influence the rates at which both solid and dissolved material is removed to sediments. It goes on to review the carbonate system and shows how sediments that come from continental areas may be transported to the deep sea, explores what sea-floor sediments have taught us about the history of the oceans, and describes the biological and chemical processes that continue long after sediments have been deposited on the deep sea-floor.Author: University,, Open Publisher: Butterworth-Heinemann Illustration: N Language: ENG Title: Marine Biogeochemical Cycles Pages: 00130 (Encrypted PDF) On Sale: 2005-05-31 SKU-13/ISBN: 9780750667937 Category: Science : Life Sciences - Biochemistry This Volume belongs to a series on Oceanography. The Toxicology Of Carbon Nanotubes – Video

Posted: November 9, 2012 at 8:44 am

The Toxicology Of Carbon Nanotubes
ll4.me The Toxicology Of Carbon Nanotubes The widespread and increasing use of carbon nanotubes in scientific and engineering research and their incorporation into manufactured goods has urged an assessment of the risks and hazards associated with exposure to them. The field of nanotoxicology studies the toxicology of nanoparticles such as carbon nanotubes and has become a major growth area aimed towards risk assessment of nanoparticles. Compiled by a team of leading experts at the forefront of research, this is the first book dedicated to the toxicology of carbon nanotubes. It provides state-of-the-science information on how and why they are so potentially dangerous if breathed in, including their similarities to asbestos. The book examines various aspects of carbon nanotubes, from their manufacture and aerodynamic behaviour to their effects at molecular level in the lungs. It is invaluable to the many groups involved with research in this area, as well as to regulators and risk assessors.
