Sarah Drew Would Totally Love A Japril Spinoff With Jesse Williams, And Knows How She’d Want It To Be Different From Grey’s Anatomy – CinemaBlend

Sarah Drew and Jesse Williams returned to Greys Anatomy for its Season 18 finale, thrilling fans with the reveal that their characters Jackson Avery and April Kepner had reunited. The fandom has been screaming for a Japril spinoff pretty much since Drew left the medical drama at the end of Season 14 (if not before that), and the yearning to see the couples life together in Boston is stronger than ever following their on-screen in-elevator kiss. The actors seem down for a spinoff, as well, as theyve consistently voiced their love for the characters, but Drew has an interesting idea about how shed want to differentiate their series from Greys Anatomy.

The idea of a spinoff featuring Jackson and April was actually one the actors pitched when they were both still on the show. Rather than giving them their own series, the writers turned their pitch into what is now known as Japril The Movie, a heartbreaking Season 12 episode. Sarah Drew returned for the Season 17 episode that announced Jesse Williams exit from Greys Anatomy, with April agreeing to accompany Jackson to Boston to continue co-parenting their daughter Harriet. Drew spoke with Tommy DiDario on Instagram about how she sees that story being continued:

In my dream world, it would be like a 10-episode kind of show where we could be somewhere that allows it to be a little darker, and a little grittier, a little sexier. That would be fun.

The Japril dynamic has been fun to watch, to say the least, but if they were the sole focus of the story, without the necessity of sharing screen time with a bevy of other Seattle surgeons, Jesse Williams and Sarah Drew would definitely have to dive deeper into Jackson and Aprils complexities much like they did for Japril The Movie. In that episode (officially Unbreak My Heart), Jackson served April with divorce papers, prompting a look at the highs and lows of their time together, with the episode ending with the reveal that April was pregnant again.

The history certainly exists for Sarah Drew and Jesse Williams to go darker and grittier with the characters. As far as sexier, lets just say its a good thing Jackson and April are doctors, because I feel some heart palpitations coming on.

The reason for their move to Boston for Jackson to take over his familys Catherine Fox Foundation to help provide better medical care to underserved communities would also lend itself to some interesting and important content. Drew said that would be fun to tackle:

And I think that's what's really fun about these two characters...they're both right now kind of really living in their purpose. And they're out to change the medical field and to fight for medical justice. We haven't seen that out in the world yet. So, I think it could lend itself to really interesting, fun stories to tell.

After his exit from the show in 2021, Jesse Williams said he and Sarah Drew would kill it if given the chance to do a spinoff, and Greys Anatomy star Ellen Pompeo also said she gets why fans want to see more, and shed watch them lead their own show. This seems to be an idea that fans (and the actors!) arent letting go of, so will somebody order this spinoff already?

In the meantime, you can relive all the Japril drama on streaming, with Seasons 1-17 of Greys Anatomy available to Netflix subscribers, while Season 18 is available in full with a Hulu subscription.

Jesse Williams & Sarah Drew Returning To Greys Anatomy As Jackson & April – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Japril will be back on Greys Anatomy. Jesse Williams and Sarah Drew are set to reprise their roles as Jackson and April in the Season 18 finale of the ABC medical drama, which airs May 26.

Williams departed Greys Anatomy last spring after 12 seasons. His character Jackson Averys exit was revealed in the May 6 episode, Look Up Child, which also featured Greys alumna Drew, who returned as April Kepner to help give Jackson a proper sendoff by reuniting one of the shows most popular couples, Japril. Jackson visited his ex to tell her that he was moving to Boston to take over the family foundation. April agreed to follow him there so he can be close to their daughter, while dropping a bombshell of her own that she recently had separated from her husband giving fans hope that Japril might be back on. As April and Jackson put it, Fingers crossed for new horizons, reigniting calls from Greys devotees for a Jackson-April spinoff.

This will be Drews first Greys episode since then. Williams made two more appearances last season, in his last episode as a series regular the following week and a cameo in the Season 17 finale, in which he welcomed Jo and her daughter to his old apartment via video phone call.Williams and Drews return will now provide an update how Jackson and April are doing a year later.

At the time of Williams exit last May, I asked him whether he would return to Greys for a guest appearance.

You know, I cant be sure, but I think its possible, he said. Yeah, I think its totally possible. I think its totally possible. You never know how things will shake out. Theres a lot of other factors at play, including schedules and stuff, but I love the idea of keeping that option open. Drew also has said publicly that she would love to reprise her Greys role.

Williams also shared his vision for Jacksons next chapter in Boston.

In my mind he will have many stumbles on his road to success in the administrative that hes taken on running a foundation. I think this is something he will not, cannot give up on. Hes finally found a place for his whole self that is not just his profession, he said. Hes always had this bubble wrap around him that has protected him, and being able to do this work, I think, hes going to be thrilled and feeling like blood is coursing through his veins in a whole new way now. Hes going to feel alive in a way that he hasnt before, which is very exciting.

As for Jackson and April, he said: I think its pretty possible that he rekindles a romantic connection to his ex-wife, theyre damn good together, but most importantly what he needs from that is friendship and kindness, and patience, and understanding, and I think that he will get that with her and be able to share and give and reciprocate it as well, Williams said at the time.

The pandemic-themed Season 17 was defined in part by high-profile cast returns, including Patrick Dempsey, T.R. Knight, Eric Dane, Chyler Leigh and Drew. Williams and Drews return in the finale will cap an 18th season that has featured alums Kate Walsh (in a multi-episode arc) and appearances by Kate Burton as well as Greg Germann, who exited as a series regular shortly after Williams did last season.

After a monthlong break, Greys Anatomy is returning May 5 with the episode Should I Stay or Should I Go. In it, Bailey faces an unhappy Catherine, who is facing audits for several of her Foundation hospitals. Meanwhile, Addison is back at Grey Sloan; tensions rise between Meredith and Richard, and Owen returns to work. Greys Anatomy airs Thursday 9 PM on ABC. New episodes are available on demand and on Hulu the day following their broadcast premiere.

In his Broadway debut, Williams is starring in the hit revival of Take Me Out, getting strong reviews for his portrayal of Darren Lemming. This summer, he can be seen in the Paramount Pictures action comedy Secret Headquarters with Owen Wilson and the Hulu series Your Place or Minewith Reese Witherspoon. Williams produced the 2020 Oscar winning short film Two Distant Strangers and is executive producer of Question Bridge: Black Males, a series of transmedia art installations on display as part of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Cultures permanent collection. He is repped by Priya Satiani at Management 360, CAA, 42West and Andre Des Rochers Granderson.

Drew, who spent nine season on Greys Anatomy, can soon be seen starring in the Apple+ series Amber Brown and also stars in the Lifetime movie Reindeer Games (working title), which she wrote and is producing under her two-picture deal with the network. She can also be seen recurring on Freeforms Cruel Summer. Drew is repped by Innovative Artists, Vault Entertainment and Yorn, Levine.

Sun is teaching COVID-19 researchers how to use high-performance AMD computers – William & Mary News

by Joseph McClain | December 8, 2021

Large segments of the worlds research community refocused in early 2020 in response to the growing COVID-19 pandemic.

Biochemists, epidemiologists, molecular biologists, geneticists and other specialists began working on various ways to model, track and attack the novel coronavirus using the most sophisticated scientific techniques and methods. Those techniques have become increasingly computationally intensive in nature, requiring high-performance computing not always available to the COVID research community.

The multinational semiconductor company Advanced Micro Devices AMD stepped into the fight against COVID-19 by supporting 23 organizations in addressing issues such as vaccine development, genetic sequencing and modeling of the outbreak. AMD provides researchers with high-performance computing devices, especially graphics processing units, supported by the AMD Radeon Open Compute (ROCm) platform.

AMD brought in a set of instructors, including William & Marys Yifan Sun, to make sure the researchers get the maximum benefit of the combined 12 petaflops of computing capacity. Sun and his fellow instructors are holding a series of online lectures and office hours to get the COVID researchers up to speed on graphics processing unit (GPU) computing and, in particular, the computing language needed.

Even before COVID, we were writing a book designed for the HIP program language, which is what you need to work with AMD GPUs, said Sun, an assistant professor in William & Marys Department of Computer Science. The book is not done yet, but almost there. So, the AMD people put together experts in component computing with experts in research for a 10-week session.

Sun said he has 33 people taking his classes. Its an international group, with representatives from research institutions in the U.S., Italy, Germany, the U.K., India, France and Canada.

Theyre assistant professors, researchers, Ph.D. students, he added. Five of them are from AMD; I think theyre want to take the course to get a better understanding about how to program AMD GPUs and how to improve GPU program performance.

The researchers are not novices to high performance computing, so Sun says he and the other instructors were able to hit the ground running, introducing the HIP language in the early weeks.

Then, later on, we dive into performance tuning, invoking libraries and other tools, he explained. This is a hyper-focused community. They care about performance. They care about how fast they can get a result.

The researchers develop their algorithms themselves. Sun said many of the attendees are interested in applying high-performance computing to tasks such as protein folding modeling, as well as gene sequencing and alignment. GPU-based computing shines in such computation-heavy chores, he added.

Sun explained that traditional computer architecture is based on the CPU the central processing unit. A CPU can have numerous cores, or brains, and CPU cores can number into the tens, or hundreds. To link all of those cores, CPU servers communicate from rack-to-rack of servers.

So the communications between CPU cores are intrinsically very slow, Sun explained. But in this initiative, were using GPU devices. GPUs are highly parallel, and there are thousands of cores in a single GPU.

The GPU architecture is much faster, he said, because of the parallel nature and assembly of more cores on a single device. No need for slow fabrics such as an Ethernet cable to communicate computer to computer. Sun said the result is much quicker computation for researchers working to combat the virus causing a global pandemic.

For common algorithms, GPUs can be hundreds to thousand times faster than CPUs. For more specific algorithms, like gene alignment, I would say at least tens of times faster, Sun said. You could think about it reducing a computation assignment from 10 days to one day. Thats a lot of speed-up.

Jesse Williams responds to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ fans clamoring for a Jackson and April spinoff: ‘We would kill it’ – Yahoo News

Jesse Williams told Insider on Tribeca's closing night red carpet he knows fans want a Japril show.

He left "Grey's Anatomy" in May with other projects lined up, but doesn't dismiss a future spinoff.

"I won't say it's not a possibility. I sure as hell won't say that," Williams told Insider.

Visit Insider's homepage for more stories.

Jesse Williams departed "Grey's Anatomy" back in May, but he's well aware that fans would love to see a continuation of his character Jackson Avery's story with April Kepner (Jackson's longtime love interest, played by Sarah Drew).

The actor didn't shut down the possibility of a Jackson and April (or "Japril," as they're affectionately known to fans) spinoff series, separate from "Grey's Anatomy," while speaking with Insider on the red carpet for Tribeca Festival's closing night film, "Dave Chappelle: This Time This Place," at New York City's Radio City Music Hall last Saturday.

"It's all love. It feels good," Williams said of how passionately fans are campaigning for Japril spinoff.

Though Williams has plenty of other projects lined up (he teased to Insider on the red carpet that he signed on for a new movie with Owen Wilson and Michael Pea just hours before arriving), he still has plenty of love for the "Grey's" fandom.

The actor, who will next make his Broadway debut in a revival of the play "Take Me Out" next year, also agrees the idea for a spinoff that viewers are pitching, following a reunited Jackson and April as they move to Boston to help underserved and underrepresented communities through Jackson's family's foundation, "makes total sense."

Sarah Drew returned to "Grey's Anatomy" for the season 17 episode "Look Up Child" ahead of Williams' exist to help close out Jackson's storyline. ABC/Richard Cartwright

"It's a really interesting premise. We would kill it," Williams continued, adding that his former costar Drew "is such a tremendous person and actor."

Story continues

"So, I get it. I'm with them," he added.

Of course, there's a difference between liking the idea and being open to actually helming a spinoff.

While Williams obviously can't make any promises, he believes such a show can certainly happen in the future.

"I won't say it's not a possibility. I sure as hell won't say that," he told Insider.

If Youre Passionate about Public Health, Volunteer with the Medical Reserve Corps! – Prince William Living

Provided by Prince William County

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, local Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) volunteers have served in Prince William County and the surrounding areas. MRC volunteers supportCOVID-19 testing sites and vaccination clinics, and educate the community on the best ways to prevent spreading and contracting the virus.

The MRC is a group of dedicated volunteers, who donate their time and talents to prepare for and respond to public health emergencies and promote healthy living throughout the year. MRC volunteers supplement existing emergency and public health resources.

Jeff Scheulen has volunteered with the MRC since April 2020. He began helping with testing, then moved on to help with the vaccination clinics. Jeff said, Im retired, and when I heard about MRC, which I never heard of before COVID, I realized there was a path for me to help out and support the community. My past career as a paramedic, thats what I did. I helped people.

Anyone can join the MRC; no medical experience is needed. Volunteers receive free training and participate in drills and exercises to prepare for emergencies. Volunteers must be over 18 and pass a criminal background check.
