Grey’s Anatomy: 5 Characters Who Are Smarter Than They Seem (& 5 Vice Versa) – Screen Rant

Characters like Owen could be deemed as intelligent for obtaining a medical degree but that doesn't make them exempt from failing to use common sense.

All of the characters on Grey's Anatomy could be deemed as extremely intelligent for obtaining a medical degree alone, but that doesn't make them exempt from failing to use common sense in everyday situations and having more workplace romances than most real-life hospitals.

HR at Grey-Sloan is most likely a logistical nightmare, and the decisions made by these characters throughout 17 seasons have surely added to hospitals reevaluating their own regulations and policies. Thankfully, no episode of Grey's Anatomy is complete without some sort of resolution or lesson, so that even when characters make choices leaving fans shaking their heads, they at least are able to learn and grow from them.

Aside from being a precocious child who skipped a grade, Lexie Grey often lived inthe shadow of her big half-sister, Meredith. In reality, Lexie was one of the smartest residents Seattle Grace had ever seen. She was on track to become a neurosurgery attending under the apprenticeship of her brother-in-law, Derek Shepard before her untimely demise.

Despite being the Chief of Surgery at Seattle Grace turned Grey-Sloan Memorial for many years,Richard Webber never quite got it rightwhen it came to his personal life. His marriage with Adele suffered for years because of his longstanding affair with Ellis Grey, and his nepotism shone through when he began mentoring Meredith in Season 6 in an attempt to get her to keep quiet about his resurfacing alcoholism.

As the head of surgery, one would think he would be smarter than to make a lot of the decisions he did over the course of the show.

Originally introduced as an all-mighty villain standing in the way of Derek and Meredith, Addison Montgomery proved herself to be much more than just the attending neurosurgeon's estranged wife. Addison never settled for less than she deserved with Mark, she had her patients best interests in mind as an OB/GYN, and even got her own spinoff, Private Practice.

When Owen Hunt was introduced as a love interest for Cristina Yang in Season 5 of Grey's Anatomy, it was easy for fans to view him as a stark contrast to Cristina's ex-fianc, Preston Burke.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: 10 Major Flaws Of The Show That Fans Chose To Ignore

However, Owen was no stranger to mistakes, and he sure did make a lot of them. He always seemed to want what he couldn't have, and continuously tried to change all of the women he was involved with. He lost Cristina because she wouldn't have his baby, and after years of will-they-won't-they with Teddy, he ended up losing her too.

Teddy loses points for exposing herself cheating on Owen over voicemail, sure, but viewers have to give credit where credit is due to Doctor Altman. In season 7, she married a patient so he could have proper health insurance, and ended up having one of the healthiest relationships on the show because of it.

Henry's death was devastating, but his storyline proved that Teddy was a lot more than Owen's maybe-lover, and her marrying him both extended and improved his life.

Yes, Derek Shepherd was an award winning neurosurgeon, but a lot of his choices throughout the series made fans think twice about his intelligence. First, he had an affair with an intern, and when his wife came back around he shattered the heart of the love of his life by trying to fix a broken marriage.

RELATED:10 Questionable Dating Choices In Grey's Anatomy

Additionally, Derek continuously acted in his own self-interest, like when he took full credit for the Alzheimer's trial he created alongside Meredith and the whole almost-affair in D.C.

Alex Karev started the show has an arrogant intern who thought he was better than everyone else. Because of his attitude, his fellow interns despised him and actually thought less of him. His growth throughout the series allowed fans to find him incredibly lovable and a genuinely talented surgeon.

His knowledge of pediatrics showed just how intelligent of a doctor he was, and he emotionally matured by making smarter romantic decisions, such as his relationship with Jo (just ignore Season 16, Episode 16!).

Izzie Stevens was labeled 'Doctor Model' during her intern years and often tried to prove herself because of it. However, Izzie could never separate her emotions from logic, such as when she cut Denny's L-VAD wire in Season 2, and then left the hospital after he passed away.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: 5 Characters Who Give The Best Romance Advice (& 5 Who Give The Worst)

For being a doctor, it sure took Izzie a long time to realize she was dying of cancer, and communication never seemed to be her strong suit, especially in relationships, because she ran off the second things got hard in her and Alex's marriage.

April Kepner started as the mousy brunette from Mercy West who had a childlike crush on Derek, but turned into the redheaded trauma surgeon viewers didn't know they needed.

April's smartest moments included her speech to Gary Clark during the hospital shooting, where she told him her life story so he'd view her as a human and spare her life, which he did, and leaving her first wedding to Matthew to be with her true love Jackson (even if that didn't entirely work out in the end).

There's no doubt that Meredith Grey is a great surgeon. She is the daughter of Ellis Grey, after all. A lot of Meredith's acting out is a result of her paternity, like having an affair with an attending as an intern, putting her hand on a bomb in a patient's chest cavity, nearly drowning, putting herself between her husband and a gunman, etc.

Meredith Grey is brave, but that doesn't make her decisions all that smart.

Grey’s Anatomy: 5 Most Shameful Things Bailey Did (& 5 Should Be Proud Of) – Screen Rant

Miranda Bailey has proven to be an excellent surgeon and a fantastic character. However, that's not to mean she hasn't made any mistakes along the way

Miranda Bailey in the popular ABC medical drama Grey's Anatomyis a formidable woman, the current Chief of Surgery at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, and one of the most powerful characters in the show.

RELATED:What If Grey's Anatomy Was Made In The UK? (Recasting The Characters)

Miranda is one of those people who kept an eye on things and ensured they ran smoothly at the hospital, even when she wasn't necessarily required to do so. She has a profound bond with her mentor Richard Webber and copes with the stress of being a surgeon and administrator as well as a mother. There are several things she has done that would make her very proud, but a few that wouldn't.

One of the most hated supporting characters in the history of Grey's Anatomy was Eliza Minnick, the consultant hired by Bailey and Catherine Fox to flush out any problems with the hospital's surgical residency program.

Eliza was widely hated, by the other characters and fans alike, and exited the show after just one season. However, in that brief time, she had caused enough damage already. Richard had to step down from his position as Director of the program which led to a massive tiff between him and Bailey.

Eliza was also the reason that Stephanie ended up being severely injured in the season 13 finale after she refused to break her own protocols, which led to Bailey, herself, firing her in the end. However, a lot of heartaches could have been saved had she not arrived at all. Her presencewas definitely something Bailey should be ashamed of.

Bailey has mentioned some excellent surgeons over the years, from Harper Avery winner Meredith Grey to Cristina Yang, Alex Karev, and even April Kepner. Needless to say, the original bunch of interns who were under Bailey's supervision didn't make it easy to mentor them--they were a mess most of the time--but Bailey did a terrific job nonetheless.

While Bailey was nicknamed "the Nazi" for her strict disciplinarian ways, fans can't disagree with her methods as her mentorship worked wonders for a whole generation of doctors.

Just as Bailey mentored so many doctors, she herself had been mentored by Richard Webber, who had believed in her always. However, Bailey's relationship with Webber, although very close, wasn't always smooth.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: 10 Of The Worst Things Miranda Bailey Has Ever Done

Bailey snapped at Richard when the latter tried to help her through the difficult phase when she was dealing with the revelation that she had infected a number of patients due to an infection she was carrying. Webberhad tried to be there for her, but the latter snubbed his gestures, reminding him that he had been an alcoholic and that he should have been grateful to her for covering for him for years. This hurt Richard who was, after all, only concerned for his friend and mentee.

Bailey had overcome a lot to become the strong, empowered woman that she is. In season 6 and 14, fans had seen how she had fought hard to get where she was, to fulfill her dream of becoming a renowned surgeon.

The fact that she went on to become, through sheer hard work and excellence, the first female Chief of Surgery at Seattle Grace/Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital was an accomplishment worthy of being proud indeed.

Bailey had expected to be made Chief Resident while she was still doing her residency at Seattle Grace. However, Webber ended up selecting Callie Torres for the position and unfortunately, Bailey didn't take it too well.

She was clearly jealous of Callie and tried to put her down at every turn. She made herself Callie's back up and although she did take on some of the responsibilities that were meant to be Callie's, that didn't stop her from being rather petty about the whole affair. In the end, Callie was removed from the post, and Bailey was made Chief Resident. Sure, a bit of competition is healthy, but this wasn't Bailey's proudest moment.

Bailey had a heart attack in season 14, an episode that delved into the crucial subject of women's heart health. It showed Bailey diagnosing her own heartattack and then being dismissed as a "hysterical woman" at another hospital because they believed that she was making it up.

RELATED:Which Grey's Anatomy Character Is Your Soulmate, Based On Your Zodiac?

Bailey managed to survive the attack and get past it after fighting her case and demanding Maggie come and save her. She also began to take care of herself more and managed to find a balance between her work and personal life. Throughout this storyline, fans were extremely proud of her

Alex Karev and Webber had both stuck up for Meredith when the latter got involved in an insurance fraud which she had committed to help a patient.

Unfortunately, Bailey wasn't having any of it and ended up firing both doctors for supporting Meredith. Bailey was, no doubt, entitled to taking steps as she pleased during such a crisis, where one of her main attendings was implicated. But to fire two other major surgeons simply for showing solidarity with a friend made little sense. Bailey did go overboard with this one.

Back in season 10,Bailey was diagnosed with OCDafter the hospital believed she was responsible for inadvertently infecting several of their patients. At first, her symptoms were very subtle as Bailey was seen to be concerned with the smell coming from her son's bedroom. However, as the show went on, her behaviors became more apparent.

She was seen to lock herself in her lab and spent hours testing herself for staph. She was seen to be organizing her tools and washing her hands to calm her anxiety. Her rituals even placed a patient in jeopardy because of her obsessive thoughts. While Bailey struggled to accept her diagnosis at first, she eventually decided to seek professional help. It was such a big step that everyone was extremely proud of her.

Miranda was a great mentor to the likes of Meredith Grey but when it came to rules, she was always a bit of a stickler. On the other hand, Meredith never had much use for rules.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: 10 Details About Meredith Grey That Everyone Forgot

Meredith broke a lot of hospital regulationsand even medical ethics during her career. From tampering with Derek Shepherd's Alzheimer's trial to helping Izzie with the L-VAD wire and committing insurance fraud to help a patient, Meredith has done it all. But there is no denying that she is a great surgeon who ends up saving lives all the same. Bailey, though, it seems, never sees that. Now, this is thin ice of course, for Mirandais justified in her own way. But where Meredith Grey is concerned, fans would want Bailey to cut her some slack. Especially since she has broken the rules herself from time to time.

Miranda Bailey was a hero during the hospital shooting of season 6.At the time of the attack, Bailey had been with a patient, Mary, and the surgical resident Charles Percy. She warned the others about the shooter and her quick-thinking saved her own as well as her patients' lives.

She also did her best to save Charles, who had been shot and would have hopefully saved his life had the hospital not gone into total lockdown. For her heroic efforts that day, Miranda should be infinitely proud.

Grey’s Anatomy: 5 Most Shameless Things That George Ever Did (& 5 He Should Be Proud Of) – Screen Rant

T.R Knight's George O'Malley will always be an unforgettable part of Grey's Anatomy, both for his shameless and decent, compassionate actions.

Actor T.R Knight's George O'Malley will probably remain etched into the memories of Grey's Anatomy fans forever. One of the most gentle, compassionate male characters ever written forpopular television, George was an instant fan-favorite and the fact that his character died such a devastatingdeath made him all the more memorable.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: What Your Favorite Character Says About You

One of the original interns at Seattle Grace Hospital, George was beloved in almost every way possible but there were twists in his character that messed with his arc at times. There were very few things the kind and empathetic George did that can be considered shameless but here are some that can come close, and a few others that would make any man proud.

George was one of the only people at Seattle Grace aware of Burkes tremor after his shooting and the fact that he and Cristina were keeping it a secret. Now,George was completely justified in his discomfort sinceBurke and Cristins little team effort where they continued to perform surgeries even though Burke wasnt ready, was completely unethical.

The duo was even ready to operate of George's own father. But perhaps he took it a little too far when he stopped talking to Cristina even though no damage had really been done. After all, Cristina was already under a lot of stress fromshielding Burke.

When Joe, everybody's favorite bartender, collapsed inside his own bar, the doctors at the hospital naturally did their best to save their go-to guy who was privy to so many of their little secrets.

However, Joe refused the brain surgery he needed due to the insurmountable expense it would involve, which might, in turn, cause him to lose his bar. It was George who took it upon himself to convince Richard Webber to fund the cost of the surgery by getting Joe into a grant with a research foundation. The effort George took to save Joe and help him keep his beloved bar was indeed commendable.

George himself might not have even realized it, but he seemed to be using Callie as a kind of rebound and a way to make himself feel better after his unfortunate incident with Meredith.George had, as fans would recall, always harbored an enormous crush on Meredith.

RELATED:What If Grey's Anatomy Was Made In The UK? (Recasting The Characters)

But unfortunately, the latter, who was going through a phase at the time, had started crying when she was in bed with himwhich was totally unfair. George's affair with Callie started soon after and although it was Callie who took the initiative, George's whole storyline with her felt forced, and somewhat like a rebound.

George came from a family where becoming a surgeon was almost unimaginable. He was intellectually much more advanced than most other members of his family, especially his two brothers who teased him relentlessly when they realized he wasn't yet a proper doctor and only an intern.

George, however, didn't let his family tie him down or pull him back. He became a surgical intern and then a resident and would surely have gone on to be a successful surgeon in time.

George and Alex started fighting in the episode "Where The Boys Are" becauseAlex had just told George that Callie had been unfaithful to him with Mark Sloan. Interestingly enough, Alex was actually telling the truth, and the slap-fight led to Walter, the bartender Joe's boyfriend, hitting his head against a rock.

Even though the whole thing was an accident, George was left feeling guilty. Although it is hard to necessarily call this shameless, he could surely have been more mature and responsible.

George performed an extraordinary feat when he operated on a young patient who needed heart surgery inside an elevator that had got stuck due to a power shortage.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: 5 Of George's Sweetest Moments (& 5 Most Heartbreaking)

George was only an intern at the time and not ready to take on such a daunting task on his own. However, while Alex froze, it was George who stepped up and took charge, thoroughly impressing Preston Burke. Under Burke's instructions, he went on to perform the surgery inside the elevator, saving his patient's life almost single-handedly.

Young Lexie Grey had a crush on George when she first arrived at Seattle Grace. She was extremely sweet to George, which was typical of her gentle nature. She even tried to protect himfrom getting hurt by keeping the fact that he was repeating a year as an intern from her fellow-interns.

However, George never seemed to notice her rather obvious feelings, even though the two shared a dilapidated apartment for a while. George and Lexie would have made an ideal couple, but the former ended up hurting Lexie when he failed to pay her any attention. This wasn't exactly shameless but really, however, Lexie did end up getting hurt.

George O'Malley was inspired by Owen Hunt who had just joined the hospital after a tour of Iraq to become a trauma surgeon. Owen had told George that despite his passiveways, hehad the potential to become an excellent trauma surgeon.

For soft, gentle George to enlist in the army would have taken unbelievable courage and motivation to help people. Of course, George never ended up actually joining the military as a surgeon but this was something he should have been incredibly proud of.

One of the worst things George did and possibly thetrulyshameless one was his affair with Izzie while still being married to Callie Torres. Callie and George were not the best fit and they got married too early. However, George cheating on Callie who had been nothing but good, caring, and loving to him, made no sense at all.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: 10 Worst Times A Character Cheated, Ranked

The Callie-George-Izzie triangle was one of the worst storylines in the series, receiving quite a bit of flak from fans, and sending George's character completely haywire. It was thoroughly uncharacteristic of himto stoop to this level and definitely rather shameless.

While his cheating on Callie wasn't his proudest moment, George did something else that would quite literally become the most selfless thing he ever did. He threwhimself in front of a bus to save a random stranger on the street.

Fans remember the season 5 finale as one of the most shocking and tragic season finales in the history of the series as George O'Malley was admitted to Seattle Grace as a John Doe after getting hit by a bus to save a woman he didn't even know. His face was so badly disfigured that his own friends were unable to recognize him. George died painfully, practically giving his life for a stranger, which was the ultimate sacrifice and the proudest thing one can do.

Grey’s Anatomy: 10 Major Flaws Of The Show That Fans Chose To Ignore – Screen Rant

While there are several things that haven't aged well on the show, fans have also noticed several flaws they overlooked the first time.

Other medical dramas may come and go, but not ABCs Greys Anatomy, arguably the most successful show of its kind in tv history. There's a reason why it has become one of thelongest-running showson TVas the show has an ability to continuously present compelling stories and craft characters fans cant help but fall in love with.

RELATED: 10 Medical Dramas That Are Better Than Grey's Anatomy

Throughout its run, though, the show has also met criticism. And while some of these are relatively minor issues, fans have also discovered that there are major flaws with this medical drama that everyone has let them get away with.

The shows lead star herself, Ellen Pompeo, pointed this out in a recent interview. Specifically, she took issue with Merediths apparent desperation to cling to Derek as evidenced by one of Merediths most dramatic lines.

[...] That, Pick me, choose me, love me [line]; I was like, Why am I begging a man to love me? the actress told Variety. To me, thats not empowering. Behind the scenes, Pompeo also found herself to be earning less than Dempsey. While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, the actress revealed she tried to ask for more. They wouldn't give it to me.

Sure, it is understandable for tv dramas to raise the stakes and make us hold our breath from time to time. However, one could argue that the show took things too far when it presented the storyline involving Izzie and her patient Denny.

Granted, it was hard not to root for Denny. However, a storyline wherein a medical intern readily goes against medical ethics just comes across as far-fetched. Heigls performance may have been compelling but one cant help but question the competency and reliability of all the doctors on the show.

When fans first meet George, hes a shy and nervous medical intern who freezes up during his first surgical procedure, earning him the nickname 007. At some point, the viewers also come to realize that OMalley has a serious crush on Meredith and that hes always hoped she would feel the same way.

RELATED: Grey's Anatomy: 5 Of George's Sweetest Moments (& 5 Most Heartbreaking)

To some, this storyline may look cute. But considering all of Merediths other romances, it did feel like they were wasting George's character development. Fans always wished that the character could have had more solo storylines so he had time to shine prior to his seriously traumatic death.

Meredith and Derek have a love story that endures throughout several seasons of the show. Fans see them date. They watch them fight. And, eventually, they witness them get married. Their relationship is meant to be a compelling love story. However, in hindsight, many fans believe there are someproblematic tendencies.

For starters, the power relations between Derek and Meredith has been a topic of conversation for a while now, especially since he was her boss and she was an intern. Even Krista Vernoff believes their relationship wouldn't have lasted if their love story unfolded the way it did

In the season 10 episode entitled "Throwing It All Away," Arizona deals with a young patient with a failing liver. However, when she goes to explain the condition, Arizona mistakenly refers to it as the psoriasis of the liver. Psoriasis happens to be a skin condition characterized by bumpy red patches that are covered by white scales. It can appear on ones scalp, knees, lower back and elbows. On the other hand, cirrhosis refers to the scarring of ones liver and loss of liver function. This is, most likely, what Arizona was referring to.

Although her one true love has always been Derek, Meredith has also dated several other men over the years. Following Dereks death, the show faced the tricky situation of introducing a man into her life. For Pompeo, the timing of it all was too soon.

RELATED: Grey's Anatomy: Meredith's 5 Best Pieces Of Advice (& Her 5 Worst)

But the truth is, the ink wasn't even dry on his exit papers before they rushed in a new guy, the actress told The Hollywood Reporter. That new guy came in the form of Nathan Riggs. Their relationship was heartwarming but it was also awkward. They didnt love the storyline, so that ended.

Throughout the shows run, fans have seen a lot of characters hook up at some point and sometimes, these relationships end up taking over most of the storyline. While one understands that relationships are vital to a drama like this, the show does have a tendency to force characters unnecessarily.

For instance, a lot of fans cringed when Addison and Alex Karev hooked up. Granted, the relationship did not last but one wonders why it had to happen in the first place. Wasnt it enough that Addison was already in a tight situation because of Derek and Mark?

April Kepner is a fearless doctor who suffers from one life-threatening allergy, peanuts (see: "Unbreak My Heart"). However, in the season 14 episode entitled "Judgement Day," a whole batch of cookies with cannabis got distributed among various hospital staff.

In the end, several doctors get high, including Arizona, Avery, Maggie, Alex, Bailey and yes, April. Interestingly, Aprils world gets a little trippy, along with the rest of the affected staff. If she was allergic to peanuts though, her reaction to the cookie would be worse since they are made with peanut butter.

Over the years, fans have seen Merediths dedication to the job. She would do just about anything to save a patient. And when she encounters a young girl with cancer, her heart simply breaks, especially after learning that her immigrant father didnt have proper healthcare to support her treatment.

And so, Meredith decides to commit insurance fraud by claiming that it was her daughter that underwent the procedure instead, allowing the girls treatment to be covered. Some may see this course of action as heroic but there could have been other way to help a critical patient without jeopardizing her career.

Since, the show started, Meredith has been involved in more life-threatening incidents than anyone can count. She ended up holding a bomb inside a patients stomach to keep it from detonating. She nearly drowns after falling into the pier, she's involved in a hospital shooting and she also ends up in a plane crash. It seems that Meredith has been thrown into harms way too much and its about time that it stops.

Grey’s Anatomy: 10 Friendships That Should Have Happened But Never Did – Screen Rant

There were many friendships on Grey Anatomy that have come and gone. However, fans are disappointed that these characters didn't get more screen time.

The hit ABC medical drama Grey's Anatomyhas always prided itself on deliveringthe perfect mix of love, longing, loss, pain, and death. Over the years, several amazing friendships have formed between the characters.

From the touchingbond ofteam M.A.G.I.C.to other lovable friendships, such as that between April and Arizona or Miranda and Richard, the serieshas shownhow navigating complex human relationships is a part and parcel of daily life. However, that's not to say these were the best friendships. There were quite a few relationships that went largely ignored. In fact, there were several potential friendships the writers built up but never gave as much screen time to compared to the others. Just take a look at these examples...

Calliope Torres and Addison Montgomery were fan-favoritesand both actorscarved a niche for themselves on popular television with their beloved roles.

Callie and Addison were shown to be on the verge of a beautiful friendshipwhile going through challengesin their personal lives. Although their growing friendship was nipped at the bud as Addison left Seattle for good, this pairing could have, in time, becomeanother set of 'twisted sisters' like Cristina and Meredith.

Owen Hunt was Cristina's love interest for a long while and even ended up marrying her in season 7. The unfortunate thing was that Owen never became particularly friendly with Meredith who was his wife's best friend.

In fact, for some time Meredith wasn't on board with Cristina marrying Owen and her relationship with the trauma surgeon wasn't particularly smooth. In time, the two of them have become colleagues who respect one another but have never really been friends as such. However, asveterans of Grey Sloan, nothing would make more sense than for these two to be good friends.

Cristina Yang was one of the most beloved characters on Grey's as was the sprightly Callie Torres. Cristina was of course Meredith's best friend, but there was a brief period of time when Callie shared rooms with Cristina after both had broken up with their respective significant others.

Callie and Cristina were on friendly terms but their relationship never culminated into one where they would confide in each other like good friends usually do. Of course, Cristina was never very attached with anyone other than Meredith but she and Callie would have made a great empowered duo, with both having such strong, quirky personalities.

When Teddy Altman joined Seattle Grace, she was at a loose end with no real friends. The only person she knew was Owen who chose Cristina over her. But some efforts were made by the likes of Arizona Robbins to make her feel welcome and comfortable.

Arizona, adorably, asked Teddy to join her, Callie, and Bailey for a girls' night. While none of the others particularly wanted to spend time getting to know their new colleague, they tried to be gracious nonetheless. Arizona also offered Teddy advice from time to time, such as hooking up with Mark Sloan to take her mind off Owen. The two wouldhave made good friends and could have even become a great couple if Arizona hadn't left.

Cristina Yang was no easy person to make friends with and definitely not when it came to interns or surgical residents who she couldn't care less about.

But there was one resident, Stephanie Edwards, who had something of the makings of another Cristina in her. She was smart, competitive, and driven. In fact, she could have, in time, gone on to become a second Cristina Yang of sorts, although more emotionally connected and less mechanical. A friendship between these two would have made all the sense in the world.

April Kepner was one of those people who was good through and through, albeit a bit annoying at times, and Lexie Grey was possibly the sweetest, most gentle character the show's ever had.

These two women could easily have been friends, makingeach otherstronger. In contrast to the twisted sisters, Cristina and Meredith, April and Lexie could have been something like the good sisters, helping people and fighting all the meanness directed their way together.

Two other people who would have made good friends were Maggie Pierce and her brother-in-law,Derek Shepherd.

In fact, when Maggie feltlost initially aftershe first joined the hospital, and Meredith was giving her the cold-shoulder, it was Derek who made efforts to make Maggie feel more at home. He even invited her home for dinner, trying to patch things up between Maggie, Meredith, and Richard. Had Derek lived, his cute camaraderie with his young sister-in-law would have been something to watch out for.

Another person who could have made a good friend for Derek was Bailey. Derek was shown to be on friendly terms with Burke and Webber, but he was also cordial with Bailey, who opened up to him about her past.

In fact, fans might recall a cute moment way back in season 4, when Derek and Miranda told each otherabout their respective history as teenagers. They found out that they were both in the high schoolband, and were, for the most part, lonely adolescents. Moreover, throughout Derek's time in Grey Sloan Memorial, he and Miranda often acted as each other's conscience, offering valuable advice, albeit in an off-hand manner. Although they never properly acknowledged it, these two could have been loyal friends intime.

Tom Koracick has been a polarising character from the start whenhe was introduced as Amelia's mentor and friend. He has a snarkysense of humor and is self-aggrandizing. However, the viewers know he has a softer side to him after learning of his profoundly tragic past.

One of those aware that Tom lost his only son is Bailey. Bailey started out by hating Tom but gradually learned to respect him grudgingly once she found out about his past. With both being strong personalities, the two would always be at loggerheads but can also be seen supporting one another in spite of disagreements. If Tom manages to recover from the Covid, the Bailey-Koracick friendship might be something to think of.

This might seem like an unlikely friendship but Alex Karev did respect Richard. When he initially joined the hospital as an arrogant surgical intern, Richard was one of the people who could keep Alex mellowed for all his insolent ways.

The two even sharedsome hilarious moments when Richard decided to help Alex give Jo Wilson's date, Jason, a hard time by teasing and humiliating him relentlessly. Alex also turned to Richard for advice more than once and asked him to take over as interim chief at Pacific-North Hospital when he was away. Let's not forget that Richard was also one of the few people Alex wrote to say goodbye to when he left abruptly in season 16.There was a strong bond here that went under the radar.
