Get the Most From Your Skin Care Products: Dermatologists Say the Sequence in Which You Apply Skin Care Products …

Newswise SCHAUMBURG, Ill. (June 19, 2012) Consumers often spend hundreds and sometimes thousands of dollars a year on skin care products in an effort to improve the look of their skin. From anti-aging serums to acne medications, many adults and teens regularly apply medications or treatments to their skin. But does the sequence in which skin care products are applied influence how well the products work? Dermatologists say yes.

Medications or treatments should be applied directly after washing your face, said board-certified dermatologist Susan C. Taylor, MD, FAAD. This ensures that the medications or treatments are properly absorbed by the skin. Otherwise, people may think a product isnt working because its applied in the wrong order.

To maximize the effectiveness of skin care products, Dr. Taylor recommended people take the following steps when caring for their skin:

1. Wash your face. Use a gentle cleanser and gently pat dry. 2. Apply medication or treatment. If you are using a medicine or other treatment on your skin, you should apply this right after cleansing unless otherwise recommended by your dermatologist. When applying any cream around your eyes, use your ring finger, as it is the weakest finger and will not pull too hard on this delicate skin. 3. Apply moisturizer and/or sunscreen. 4. Apply makeup, if desired.

Its important for people to know that using several products at the same time may not only negate the benefits of each product but also irritate the skin, said Dr. Taylor. Using too many products may cause redness, stinging and dryness of the skin, especially if an anti-aging product is included. The signs of aging may then be more noticeable. A dermatologist can address any questions or concerns that you have about caring for your skin.

These steps are demonstrated in Get the Most from Your Skin Care Products, a video posted to the Academy website and the Academys YouTube channel at http://youtu.be/Q8OdZQU7u-I. This video is part of the Dermatology A to Z: Video Series, which offers relatable videos that demonstrate tips people can use to properly care for their skin, hair and nails. A new video in the series will be posted to the Academy website and the YouTube channel each month.

Stacey Nemour: The Tao of Love, Sex and Anti-Aging: Part 9

Many of us tell ourselves that we will allow ourselves to be happy when:

A. I have X amount of dollars in the bank. B. I meet my true love/soulmate or when my partner finally wakes up and loves me the way he/she ought to. C. When I get a better job. D. When I lose weight.

The list can go on and on.

By focusing only on what we feel is lacking or what we need for our future, we put our present lives on hold or cause more delays because we are not connected to the present. The present is the future; as you read this sentence it is already one second later.

This powerful insight came to me during meditation, and it has created a huge shift in my reality. Each moment is an experience of success, so placing ourselves in the intentional knowing and understanding that we are living in the moment of success creates a continual chain of a successful life.

Doing this places us in a vibrational cycle that causes continuous experience to be a constant reflection of a life of perfection. Instead of meditating we can live the perfection by realizing the journey is the moment of perfection.

Nothing needs to happen in order for me to feel successful; I am successful right now. Nothing needs to happen in order for me to feel loved; I am loved right now. Nothing needs to happen in order to feel valid; I am valid right now.

To support a positive shift within and create harmonious relationships in personal and professional affairs:

1. Find the peaceful place inside now by not placing happiness outside yourself, which is reacting to external things. Freedom comes from creating your own reality independent of what others think or are doing.

2. Drop out of all high-drama situations. Just don't participate anymore.

Fiberglass fibers cause lung diseases and cancer

By Paul Fassa

The case against asbestos in building materials was finalized after decades of research traced several severe lung cancer incidents to asbestos poisoning. Now fiberglass, the replacement for asbestos, is under similar scrutiny for the same reasons.

Independent researchers at Cornell University discovered that sick building syndrome (SBS), which causes many occupants to suffer similar health issues, occurred mostly in recently built airtight structures without adequate internal air cleaning systems. They ran out of research funds and couldn't continue.

A couple of decades ago, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), a medical wing of the Department of Labor, made an alarming discovery regarding man made mineral fibers (fiberglass). They determined that the fibers created DNA damage, which leads to chronic illness and is carcinogenic.

An anti-regulatory Congress that encouraged the rapid rise of biotech industries, such as Monsanto, threatened to abolish NIOSH around that time. Meanwhile, the large suppliers of fiberglass insulation claim they've done their own research. Read more…
