Julia Child Graduated From a College Featured in ‘Sex and the City’, Grey’s Anatomy’ and Other Shows – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Julia Child changed the face of cooking shows. The wildly popular television personality learned to cook in France and became a sensation later in life. Before she started teaching Americans the wonder of French cuisine, she had an awe-inspiring life. Child attended boarding school and later Smith College, where she graduated in 1934. While Child is one of the schools real-life graduates, several fictitious characters call the school their Alma Mater. Smith College is referenced in pop culture rather often, actually.

Before Child moved into the culinary world and became a beloved television personality, she worked for the United States government. Her government work inadvertently led her to her husband and, eventually, her television career. Before all of that, she had to get an education, though.

After being raised in Pasadena, California, Child moved to the East Coast to attend college. While at Smith College, Child played basketball, continuing her high school career that took advantage of her height. According to Smith College, Child graduated in 1934 with a degree in history.

Several well-respected schools were mentioned during the course of Gilmore Girls. While Yale was the most noted university, the show also gave nods to Princeton, Harvard, and Sarah Lawrence College. While Richard Gilmore was a Yale alum, his beloved wife, Emily Gilmore, attended Smith College.

Richard and Emily met while Richard was an undergraduate student at Yale and Emily was an undergraduate student at Smith. While neither mention exactly when they graduated, it can be assumed that the pair were in college in the 1960s. Yale didnt go coed until 1969. Until then, Smith was considered the schools sister college.

Emily Gilmore wasnt the only famous, fictitious character to attend Smith College. Charlotte York, the famed Sex and the City gallerina, mentioned the school multiple times during the shows six-season run. Funnily enough, only Charlotte and Miranda Hobbes said where they attended college. Miranda earned her law degree from Harvard University.

Greys Anatomy has mentioned multiple schools during its lengthy run. Both East Coast and West Coast schools are represented. Cristina Yang, the Greys Anatomy character, earned her medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine. Before she landed in California, she earned her undergraduate degree from Smith College.

Anatomy of a separation: How the Warriors failed to make the most of Roger Tuivasa-Sheck – New Zealand Herald

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck's time at the New Zealand Warriors has been a turbulent one. Photo / Photosport

When Roger Tuivasa-Sheck signed for the Warriors almost six years ago, it should have been the start of a golden era for the Mt Smart club. But it never quite happened.

A carousel of coaches and assistant coaches, the ownership saga and shareholder disputes, a constantly rotating roster, poor recruitment decisions and some injury misfortune have seen the Warriors mostly struggle since his arrival.

While Tuivasa-Sheck has delivered, he's been part of an organisation that hasn't been able to match his standards of dedication and professionalism.

Michael Burgess examines how it could have all been so different.

The 21-year-old was an emerging superstar. His switch to fullback at the Roosters had been a revelation and landing his signature, confirmed in April 2015, was a massive coup.

Tuivasa-Sheck saw the club's potential, as they had finished ninth in 2014, missing the finals on points differential. Alongside a desire to live in Auckland, Tuivasa-Sheck was sold on chief executive Jim Doyle's legacy pitch.

Doyle told him that while winning a grand final with the Roosters was special, being part of the first Warriors team to land the NRL premiership would still be talked about in "50 years".

The Warriors were flying high in mid-July 2015, fourth on the NRL ladder after a memorable win over the Storm.

But they lost Shaun Johnson with a season-ending ankle injury in the following game and never recovered, dropping their last eight matches in an awful run.

Instead of arriving at Mt Smart with something to build on and the club on a high, Tuivasa-Sheck walked into an environment with more questions than answers and coach Andrew McFadden under intense pressure.

Tuivasa-Sheck had a short pre-season, coming off the 2015 Kiwis tour of England. He had carried a heavy load on that trip, with an added playmaking role in the absence of Johnson, Kieran Foran and Thomas Leuluai.

The Warriors lost their first three games, including a shock defeat to the Tigers, but then started to turn the corner, with Tuivasa-Sheck scoring the winning try to defeat his old club in Gosford.

That optimism turned sour in round seven, when the fullback tore his anterior cruciate ligament playing against the Bulldogs in Wellington.

"It's the cruel side of football we've certainly had more than our share of bad luck," noted McFadden.

Tuivasa-Sheck was desperately missed. The Warriors were still seventh equal in mid-August, despite three golden point defeats, but lost their last four matches to miss the playoffs by three points. McFadden was axed, replaced by Stephen Kearney.

The club's dogged pursuit of Foran ahead of the 2017 season like Sam Tomkins a few years before illustrated a misplaced obsession with the spine. It was also a major gamble, as the club hierarchy poured massive amounts of time, energy and resources into Foran, who was rehabilitating mentally and physically after his exit from Parramatta.

But more importantly, the most pressing need was a dominant leader in the pack.

It was symptomatic of decisions made between 2015 and 2019, when the Warriors were either unable or unwilling - to land the big fish they needed, to provide the platform for Tuivasa-Sheck's talents.

Instead, there were puzzling decisions; signing Kiwi international Gerard Beale, when they already had Peta Hiku and other centres and throwing big money at Adam Blair when, for all his qualities, he wasn't the yardage forward they required.

Coaches and management would talk tough, but it was the likes of Tuivasa-Sheck that had to battle behind a pack that rarely dominated.

"We don't have the biggest forward pack, but can still do damage with the forwards we have," said the diplomatic captain ahead of the 2020 season.

Tuivasa-Sheck was a surprise choice as skipper before the 2017 season.

Kearney correctly saw his potential, though it added to the burden for a marquee man who had barely played for the club.

While Tuivasa-Sheck embraced the role, it was a brutal season. Seven defeats in their first 11 games ended any playoff ambitions and they didn't win a game after the 23rd of June, with a club-record nine consecutive losses.

Playing on home soil, the tournament was meant to be a career highlight for Tuivasa-Sheck but it turned into a nightmare.

Coach David Kidwell was out of his depth and defections, injuries and withdrawals severely weakened the Kiwis squad, who were beaten by Tonga then stunned by Fiji.

After witnessing the fervour, hype and packed stadiums that had greeted the British Lions tour earlier that year, Tuivasa-Sheck noted the contrast playing in front of a half-empty Wellington stadium for the miserable quarter-final loss.

The Warriors had high hopes playing in their first finals match since 2011, but they evaporated when Tuivasa-Sheck limped off in the 28th minute against Penrith.

The team was already struggling the forward pack couldn't assert themselves and halves Johnson and Blake Green were poor but were only trailing 14-12, before the loss of their talismanic captain.

Tuivasa-Sheck, who had become the first Warrior to claim the Dally M medal, had a wonderful season, setting the tone in the first game with an incredible defensive stop against the Rabbitohs.

Tuivasa-Sheck played in nine playoff matches at the Roosters but has only one finals appearance for the Warriors.

Johnson's departure had massive ramifications.

It remains one of the biggest strategic blunders in the club's history; even if it was decided Johnson wasn't the long-term option, to engineer a situation where the halfback demanded an early release was a lose-lose situation.

Instead of building on 2018 where the club finished two points behind the minor premiers the Warriors floundered.

Their attack lost creativity and punch without Johnson the right edge had been near unstoppable in 2018 and Tuivasa-Sheck had to carry an increased burden, as the major source of offensive inspiration.

It was meant to be a consolidation year, with another finals appearance, but they were out of the picture in 13th place.

The 2019 failure meant Kearney, the football staff and the team were under more pressure, especially with ambitious new owner Mark Robinson.

But Tuivasa-Sheck didn't shirk; instead he wrote a three-page plan, which he presented to chief executive Cameron George and other management staff.

"I wrote my own report about how I see the club going, and how I was going," he said in January 2020.

"I took the way we went [in 2019] really personally and really want us to do better."

The Covid-19 pandemic, then the abrupt sacking of Kearney, caused major upheaval for the Warriors but also exhibited the qualities of Tuivasa-Sheck.

His leadership was outstanding, and his playing standards never dropped, as they transformed into a more consistent outfit under Todd Payten.

But it was probably the final straw for Tuivasa-Sheck.

As well as being marooned away from his family, he carried a captaincy load unmatched in the NRL.

Tuivasa-Sheck enjoys that challenge, but the thought of several more years of upheaval was maybe too much to contemplate.

Grey’s Anatomy: 5 Ways Jackson And Sloan Had The Ultimate Bromance (& 5 It Was George And Burke) – Screen Rant

Between George & Burke and Jackson & Sloan, which Grey's Anatomy bromance would fans say is the best?

Grey's Anatomy features very many spectacular friendshipsand relationships. There are some bromances that stand out simply because they are too cool, and sometimes too cute to handle. Mark Sloan and Jackson Avery were two such characters who had such an adorable bond that developed from their mentor-mentee relationship.

RELATED: Grey's Anatomy: 10 Ways Jackson Became Better And Better

But George O'Malley and Preston Burke walked so that Jackson and Mark could run. After all, O'Malley and Burke were the first bromance of the early Grey's Anatomy universe. However, if fans have to choose between the two friendships, which one would they say was the ultimate bromance?

Mark was so excited to call them the "Plastic Posse" when Jackson also firmly decided to pursue Plastics as his specialization. The excitement with which he presented the name to Jackson, adding the tagline "kicking surgical a**, and taking names," was incredibly cute. He also started referring to themselves with this title when talking to others as well. While embarrassed initially, Jackson quickly warmed up to itand even started using it himself.

When George left Meredith's house after their one night stand, he crashed for a while at Burke's house. This was where fans saw their bond grow stronger. George went running with Burke, made him coffee and breakfast, knew his favorite musicians, played instruments with him, and more.

Cristina noted how George was doing everything except sleeping with Burke. He was doing all those things that Cristina shirked away. It was quite amusing to watch George and Burke's domestic existence.

Jackson and Sloan were the pinnacle bromance at this moment as Sloan admits to Jackson with certainty that he wants to be Jackson's teacher, while Jackson agrees back that he wanted to be Mark's student.

RELATED: Grey's Anatomy: 10 Ways Mark Sloan Got Better And Better

While their relationship was briefly strained due to their love of Lexie, they decided to put their careers first. After this, they continued their bromance in full swing and nothing could break them apart again.

When George's father was getting surgery, Burke took a complete interest in the case - even when he couldn't operate himself. He was constantly helping George, and getting updates, giving him medical advice.

It was very easy to see how much George trusted Burke and how strong their relationship was as George would still seek Burke out, even after Burke and Cristina's secret was exposed.

When Jackson started exploring other specialties other than Plastics, Mark started to get really worried that Jackson would leave him. He very earnestly asks Derek whether Jackson was going to leave him as well.

This is a hilarious moment asShepherd pulls Mark's leg, telling him that if he loved someone, he should let them free. But the earnest way with which Mark approached Derek showed to fans how much the bromancemeant to Mark.

When Alex Karev and George got stuck in an elevator with a man who very badly needed heart surgery, Burke called on Alex to perform the same. While Alex panicked and froze, George took over. And Burke instructed George through the entire procedure, which was an incredible achievement for just an intern.

RELATED: Grey's Anatomy: 10 Ways Alex Karev Became Better And Better

Burke was incredibly proud of George for being able to pull it off, and their ability to communicate in that extreme situation was intense.

Before Jackson's Boards, Mark was behaving exactly as a concerned parent would. He told him what to eat, offered to give him cash, told him how to behave, and so on. It was a hilarious moment where Sloan was being so fatherly to a very teenager likeJackson. Jackson and Sloan's relationship had many dimensions, and this father-son like dimension was a joy to watch.

George and Burke moved past a mentor-mentee relationship pretty quickly, into a very solid friendship. And soon, Preston started to refer to O'Malley as his "guy." George became Burke's go-to person for everything, and he trusted and relied on George for things. They were a good team, both practicing medicine and on other things.

To decide who takes care of Sofia that day, Mark Sloan and Arizona Robbins engage in a match of 'Rock, Paper, Scissors.' Jackson is also present in the scene as his hype-man and the intensity with they engage in the match is hilarious.

RELATED: Grey's Anatomy: 5 Times Jackson Avery Was An Overrated Character (& 5 He Was Underrated)

After they go two rounds, Jackson pulls Mark back to discuss the plan of action in the final round. The absurdity and silliness of the situation, coupled with the way in which Jackson and Sloan discuss the matter makes it one of the funniest moments on the show.

When Burke's lucky scrub caps are misplaced in the laundry, the highly superstitious surgeon is extremely worried. He finds out that Cristina has one of them and is using it to blackmail him into kicking O'Malley out of their house.

Burke assigns George to get it back from Cristina, and O'Malley gives it his all. George's dedication towards doing the task and the trust Burke places on him to do so all add up for very comical occurrences to happen.

Greys Anatomy: 5 Shameful Things April Did (& 5 She Should Be Proud Of) – Screen Rant

On Grey's Anatomy, a lot of the characters have complex arcs. However, April Kepner seems to be one that has plenty of ups-and-downs.

When actress Sarah Drew joined the cast of the hit medical drama Grey's Anatomy way back in season 6, she wasn't a raging fan-favorite. Between seasons 6 and 8, she didn't get much character development. That didn't occur until season 9.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: What Your Favorite Character Says About You

April Kepner was a character that evoked polarizing opinions in fans but, gradually, she made a place for herself on the show and even became beloved over the years. Fans stayed with this relatable trauma surgeon, but being the epitome of sweetness didn't mean that she never did anything she shouldn't be ashamed of.

April was devastated by the death of her son, Samuel Norbert Avery, who survived only a few hours after being born with Type II Osteogenesis Imperfecta.

Although she was completely justified in seeking a change of scene after the tragedy, some fans believed this lack of communication was the first sign of her and Jackson's marriage dwindling. She left for Iraq soon after and kept extending her tour.

Then, when she returned, she was ready to talk and fight for their marriage. This did seem a little unfair on Jackson, who had just begun processing his own feelings and grief after suppressing them for so long.

In season 14,April was seen to go througha crisis of faith when she began to feel that life was thoroughly unfair and that good people were suffering terribly for no good reason. For some time, she was unable to connect with God or find comfort in her faith. However, after talking to a rabbi, she eventually managed to find the answers she needed, which helped her put her life back together. Getting past such a crisis took great strength, which is something she should be proud of.

While April was still doubting God and everything she had grown up believing in, she would often behave uncharacteristically with her colleagues.

RELATED:Which Grey's Anatomy Character Is Your Soulmate, Based On Your Zodiac?

In the episode, One Day Like This, this is where April met the rabbi, Eli,who was in unimaginable pain from a skin condition he had developed from some antibiotics Bailey had prescribed. His situation was extremely rare and Bailey could not have guessed that her meds would backfire.

However, April, in her disillusioned state of mind, was surprisingly mean. She yelled at Baileyfor being negligent and made her feel ten times more guilty than she already was.

April enlisted in the army and went to Iraq with her mentor Owen as a way to heal after losing her baby son tragically. For someone who is usually so meek and docile, April was the last person fans expected to enlist. However, this didn't stop them from admiring her courage and bravery, especially as she served two tours and used the skills she learned in Jordan to help on her future cases.

Before April Kepner had become a firm fan-favorite and sometimes even afterward, she was rather annoying with her cloying sweetness and nagging.

In fact, not all the doctors liked her as Bailey made clear multiple times. Except for Jackson and Arizona, who became a good friend, later on, April didnt have a lot of friends at the hospital, simply because she drove people crazy with her irritating ways, however well-intentioned.

Seattle Grace was going bankrupt after the doctors, including Derek and Meredith, sued it for negligence after the shocking season 8 finale.

RELATED:Greys Anatomy: Every Season Finale, Ranked

At this time, the hospital had decided to give up its ER to cut down on expenses. Since the ER was the place where the most serious cases would arrive, it would have been a travesty to close it down. At this time, April invested a lot of time and energy, alongside Derek, to figure out a way to save the ER as well as the hospital.

April was one of the most conscientious doctors at Seattle Grace/Grey Sloan Memorial. However, when she was still an intern from Mercy West, she made a mistake that cost a woman her life.

The mistake was simple enough. April got distracted when a flood of severe trauma patients arrived following a major fire. She forgot to check a patients airway and intubate her, which ultimately led to the patients death. Although she didnt do it intentionally, this was by far one of the worst things April did in her career.

April Kepner was in a massive car crash in season 14 with her boyfriend, Matthew with whom she had got back together after splitting from Jackson.

The doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial were apprehensive as to whether or not she would make it, but almost by some miracle, she did. This incident was in fact the final thing that made April overcome her struggle with her faith.

Another rather shameful thing April did was to leave Matthew at the altar and elope with Jackson. As fans remember, April found herself embroiled in a love triangle after the trauma surgeon found herself torn between Jackson and Matthew.

RELATED:Grey's Anatomy: Every Wedding Episode, Ranked (According To IMDb)

While she did have feelings for Jackson, April decided to go ahead with her wedding to Matthew after the plastic surgeon rejected her. Then, when her wedding day arrived, Jackson decided to confess his feelings and the two ran out of the church together. Many fans that she didnt need to break Matthews heart quite so spectacularly.

April became a formidable trauma surgeon over the years, a specialty one wouldnt normally have associated with someone as sensitive as her.

She had grown up on a farm and got through several obstacles, which included getting fired twice, failing her boards,a crisis of faith, as well as the death of her son. In spite of all that, she emerged as a good surgeon, something she should most definitely be proud of.

Anatomy of the Ideal Email – mySanAntonio.com

Would you introduce yourself to a client without bathing, without combing or with shoes in two different colors? The way you write your email is part of your extended image , just like your social networks, your car, your office or the background of your Zoom meeting. They say a lot about you, and make a favorable or unfavorable impression that can result in different attitudes and results.

Take the number 236 and then add nine zeros. It's a gigantic number: 236,000'000,000. Two hundred thirty-six billion emails are sent every day around the world. The vast majority of these are business emails.

But not all emails are the same. Some are better than others - they are well written and serve their purpose effectively and elegantly.

How many emails do you write per day? How many do you get? Do you want to take your emails to the next level?

In most emails, we develop the content and only think about the "subject" or title of the email until the end. The amount of emails with definitely boring, generic or useless subjects is impressive.

The subject is the first thing the person receiving the email sees: it is what is in their inbox and what helps them decide whether to read that email in the moment, leave it for later or, outright, send it to the trash can.

Avoid generic titles like "hello" or "I hope this interests you." Whether it's for clients or partners, prefer a title that talks about content without being highly technical. Do not write either: "Subject: P 44518 11/21/2020"

Instead, write: "Subject: South grid budget, November 21, 2020", or "Work plan, Madrid trip", or "Promotions for printing, July 2021."

Think short, clear, informative, and engaging. Don't leave it to chance!

E-mail is done digitally, but it is still, at its core, a message between two people, two human beings who like to be treated as such. The least we expect - and rightly so! - is a friendly and personalized greeting and farewell.

Avoid generic greetings, which "feel" forced or said in a hurry. Whenever you can, address the recipient by their first name, saving, if applicable, the protocols and titles: doctor, teacher, professor, etc.

The farewell, like the entrance, should set the human and cordial tone without abusing clichs and clichs. You can add some personal detail ("Say hello to Marcia, your wife", or "I hope you are getting comfortable in Monterrey") that generates a greater connection and greater trust.

Today's networks are created and reinforced with each message. Take advantage of each email to connect with people; not just to convey information or get out of trouble.

That said, emails are not made to convey huge amounts of information. Nobody wants to read an entire novel in their inbox, or on their cell phone between meetings!

Keep the content short and to the point, using dots or numbers to sort the ideas if necessary. An email should be no more than two or three paragraphs long. Five? Okay, but no more than that.

If there is more to include in the same shipment, I recommend you keep the content of the text short, and add a document with the complete information: it is easier to print, read and share. Everyone hates excessively long emails; especially if they are part of a longer chain.

Never (but never) try to resolve a problem, discussion or complex issue through emails. The written word can never encapsulate the details of a live conversation or, even more, a meeting. In the middle of an argument, written words are easily misunderstood, and in a complex project, the same will happen. Better pick up the phone, fix the problem, and finally send a short email with the agreements reached.

Everyone hates excessively long emails / Image: Stephen Phillips - Hostreviews.co.uk via Unsplash

Remember: a written communication is a mechanical substitute for a real conversation, between two real people, with their real characteristics and circumstances. That is why there is no single correct shade, no single style. You would not talk the same with your boss as with a client, with a friend or with a colleague.

Are you talking about "you" or "you"? Do you greet him formally or with familiarity? Are you overly serious, or too casual? Try to imagine that you are in the same room, how would you do it then? Try to imagine what information he would need and find the best way to say it. And of course: say it well.

Bad spelling is bad business breath. No one will tell you, but trust me: everyone notices.

By the way: an email is not an SMS. An email does not admit misspellings or simplified language (at least, not in a business environment). Take care of your spelling and syntax: write correctly and completely and save the emojis and contractions for another time. Completely avoid WRITING WITH CAPITAL LETTERS and do not abuse the exclamation marks !!!!!!!!!!

Oh, how much trouble we could avoid if people reread what they just wrote! Not only to correct the spelling or complete what is missing, but above all to understand if the message makes sense , that is, if it is clear and concise in all its points.

In important emails, I recommend that you read the email aloud , to "prune" the text and eliminate the too confusing, long or unnecessary parts. Sometimes, for the sake of looking "formal," we overcomplicate things that may be simple.

Nine times out of ten, a new read before sending will help you find areas for improvement and (sure!) Embarrassing mistakes that would look terrible on your customer's tray.

By last

It's a bit ... amateur , don't you think?

This is the episode where the hearts of Grey's Anatomy fans were broken. Derek is a witness to a car accident and does the right thing by helping out.

He saves a life but gets in his car, and one second was all it took to take away one of the best characters in the history of the show. Derek is rushed to the hospital where a mistake was made that cost him his life.

In the midst of going through their divorce, Grey's Anatomy paid homage to one of the best couples on the show.

April and Jackson have been through enough in their short time together to rival the bond of any union at Seattle Grace or Grey Sloan Memorial. It's an episode of how they got to where they are now.

Meanwhile, Owen and Amelia are going through their issues, as Owen returned from a trip to see Teddy, but Amelia has labeled him a cheater.
