Robert Galvin, MD, CEO, Equity Healthcare, The BlackStone Group, says that as a primary care physician he has a bias that the patient-centered medical home (PCMH) is a great model, but is very difficult to implement. There are many challenges to ensure the success and longevity of a patient-centered medical home. For example, the lack of time for physicians to spend with patients, a large enough staff and expensive IT systems are all issues that the PCMH faces.
