Grey’s star Patrick Dempsey on working with ‘disappointing’ stars – Digital Spy

Grey's Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey has opened up about working with actors he admired who turned out to be a "complete disappointment".

The actor, who made a shock return as Derek Shepherd on the ABC drama's season 17 premiere, recently spoke to Digital Spy about whether he feels the need to take younger actors under his wing on projects such as his new TV series Devils, which aired in the US last year but premiered on Sky Atlantic/NOW TV earlier this week.

Explaining the importance of creating "an atmosphere where people can thrive and succeed", Patrick revealed he tries to emulate the actions of stars who treated him with "kindness" in the past.

He also revealed there were actors he "really looked up to" who fell short of the bar.

"You want to create an atmosphere where people can thrive and succeed," Patrick told Digital Spy.

"One of the best moments in my career early on was when Gene Wilder, who I loved he was the first celebrity or star who was so nice to me that I never forgot that. And I remember what I received from him and the kindness and I try to remember that when I come into any situation because that's ultimately what we want.

"And I've had experiences with actors who I really looked up to and they were a complete disappointment, and that type of behaviour I don't want to do.

"So you want to create an atmosphere that is safe for everyone, that is fun for everyone, that is also very professional and focused."

Devils follows the plight of high-flying banker Massimo Ruggero (Alessandro Borghi), who becomes the prime suspect in the murder of a rival who beats him to a promotion.

Patrick plays Massimo's suspicious American CEO and mentor Dominic Morgan in the series. He also recently starred in The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair.

Devils airs on Sky Atlantic and NOW TV in the UK. Grey's Anatomy season 17 airs on ABC in the US. It airs on Sky Witness in the UK with selected episodes also available on NOW TV.

The latest season of Grey’s Anatomy is tackling Covid-19 brilliantly – Her.ie

Grey's Anatomy has been praised by fans for the show's take on the Covid-19 pandemic and the related storylines featured in the new season.

It's a difficult subject to touch and because it's something we're all living at the moment, it's hard to know whether people want to see what they are experiencing in real life or simply indulge in escapism.

Grey's Anatomy, however, has found a way to incorporate Covid-19 into the show's storylines perfectly and sensitively.

One fan wrote on the show's Facebook page: Thank you for so beautifully expressing what children of Alzheimers patients endure. Both of my parents have it, my dad passed in April, and my mother was just diagnosed with Covid-19.

Another fan, hospice nurse Alecia Davidson, praised episode five of the current season, commenting: The difficult decision to push for treatment or promote comfort is my daily reality. This episode had me in my feelings the whole time.

Psychiatrist, Jessi Gold, M.D. whose primary patient population includes frontline healthcare workers, thinks the show has a great platform to show viewers both sides of situations, including what the doctors go through as well as the patients.

She said: When you have a platform like that, you can make a difference with how people talk and think about these things. There is something about having your emotions reflected back to you."

It's not just that we want to see something happy, so we feel better. It's also if someone says you have a right to feel this way because that was hard or that is challenging or that this whole experience is truly traumatising.

Grey's Anatomy is currently in its 17th season.

Greys Anatomy: Another Beloved Character Returns – Deadline

SPOILER ALERT: The story includes a detail about the Dec. 3 episode of Greys Anatomy.

The promo for tonights fourth episode of this seasons ABC hit medical drama Greys Anatomy teased that another person returns from Merediths past.

As Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) continues to battle Covid-19, her dreams have been taking her to a beach where the love of her life, Derek (Patrick Dempsey), is waiting for her. Tonight, someone else Meredith was fond of who tragically died came back to see her. Leaning onto the railing of a lifeguard tower at the beach was George OMalley (T.R. Knight).

Both were surprised but happy to see each other.

It was the first of several dream meetings between Meredith and George, in which they strolled along the beach and his death and funeral.

I was devastated when you died, Meredith said.

You were all cracking up at my funeral, George said in response.George spoke of what he misses about being alive (Dancing til you drop, laughing til you cry, food and textures, the crunch of cereal as you eat it out of the box, thefeel of clean sheets and good pillow at the end of a long day.)

At their final conversation, Meredith told George how much he meant to her.

You changed my life George, she said in one of the episodes most emotional moments, which was soon followed by another, a reunion at the beach of four of Greys original characters, George (Knight), Meredith (Pompeo), Richard (James Pickens Jr.) and Bailey (Chandra Wilson).

Knights appearance is part of a beach motif throughout the pandemic-themed Season 17 of Greys Anatomy designed to bring joy to fans.

It kicked off in the season premiere with the jaw-dropping return of Greys original male lead Dempsey.

Asked after the opener what other beloved characters from Greys past may come back, series executive producer/showrunner Krista Vernoff said:You have to tune in and see who comes to the beach. Itll be a joyful discovery.

Both Dempsey and Knight were original Greys Anatomy cast members alongside Pompeo whose characters were fan favorites. Knight left in Season 5; Dempsey departed in Season 11.

Dempseys McDreamy died after being hit by a semi truck when he pulled over to help a family involved in a car accident. In a similarly selfless act, Knights OMalley jumped in front of a bus to rescue a woman he didnt know. At the time of his exit, Knight said he felt his character had expired after getting less screen time.

In a Q&A with Deadline, Knight and Vernoff tell the backstory of Georges big return and answer burning questions about tonights episode. Read it here.

Patrick Dempsey Teases Meredith’s Diagnosis, The Length Of His ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Return On ‘Ellen’ – Deadline

Days after his characters surprise appearance in the Season 17 premiere of Greys Anatomy, Patrick Dempsey appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about his return to the ABC medical drama.

Derek, who died tragically five and a half years go, came back in a beach dream Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) slipped into after collapsing in the parking lot of Grey Sloan Memorial.

Speaking with Deadline about the premiere last week, Greys Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff would not say whether Meredith was OK, and if the collapse was a result of her just being overworked or was it something serious, like COVID, since she has been working almost exclusively with COVID patients.

The promo for this weeks episode (you can watch it below) features Meredith in a hospital bed being tended to by colleagues in full PPE as she is struggling to breathe.

In answering DeGeneres question about how his secret cameo came about, Dempsey confirmed Merediths COVID diagnosis.

He spoke about how he and Pompeo got together in July and brainstormed what they could do to make people wear masks, musing about how great it would be for the fans to see everyone reunited in this sort of bizarre way when Pompeo suggested that he returned to the show.

And to the credit of the writers, Krista came up with this great idea where I will come and visit her in her COVID dream, Dempsey said.

He also provided more information about how long his character will stick around, and it is great news for Meredith-Derek fans. In last weeks interview with Deadline, Dempsey said that he enjoyed the reunion in the premiere and was game for more episodes, while Vernoff said about Dempseys presence on the show this season, its more than the one scene you saw in the premiere. Dereks presence will be fairly extensive, Dempsey revealed on Ellen.

Asked by DeGeneres how many more episodes he will be in this season, Dempsey said, Im not sure how many. I know Im throughout this season, he comes back to visit.

And that is OK by Dempsey who likes playing a vision that brings Meredith joy and peace.

There are so many souls that we have lost right now so the idea of having angels around us is very comforting, at least to me, he said.

Here is Dempseys Ellen interview, followed by the promo for this weeks Greys Anatomy episode.

Check Out the Dramatic Newly Released Crossover Trailer for ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ and ‘Station 19’ – AmoMama

A new shocking and jaw-dropping teaser has been released for the much-anticipated premiere of the "Grey's Anatomy" and "Station 19" crossover, which is set to hit the screens on November 12.

With just three weeks before fans of the beloved ABC dramas "Grey's Anatomy" and "Station 19" get to see the three-hour crossover premiere event, the network has released a captivatingteaser to whet fans' appetites.

In the 30 seconds promo clip, fans get to have a look at what to expect as the doctors and firefighters respond to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which would be explored. It began with a scene of Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo in complete personal protective equipment, which includes a face shield.

Looking stressed and desperate, Grey stands in the middle of Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital with her together as if offering a prayer while she says, "sometimes we all need saving." It followed by a dramatic frame of Miranda Bailey, played by Chandra Wilson, looking through the glass and asking for a miraculous intervention.

Scenes from "Station 19" then come into play before there is an alternation between both shows. It is, however, the ending of the teaser that is the highlight of the promo as the background voice assures viewers that the premier would leave everyone shocked and saying, "Oh my god."

Season 17 of the medical series was first teased last month when Pompeo shared a photo of the crew on the first day on set after returning following the halt the pandemic brought to productions.

Before the image, Pompeo's co-star Giacomo Gianniotti confirmed that the new season would take off a bit farther from where things stopped in the previous season.

Its firefighter spin-off is set to return for its fourth season and explore the shocking revelation that Andy's mother, Elena, is not dead but alive. The show explores the lives and careers of the firefighters at the Seattle Fire Station 19, which is about three blocks away from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

"Station 19" is the second spin-off of the award-winning "Grey's Anatomy," with the first being "Private Practice." The crossover would see Ben Warren, played by Jason George, and Andy Herrera, by Jaina Lee Ortiz, visit the hospital after a rescue mission that saved two boys from a house fire.

They take the boys for surgery and Warren who is a doctor turned firefighter is tasked with the decision to help out while Herrerra's hand remains in the victim's abdomen to stop him from bleeding.

Both shows premiere on November 12 with "Station 19" taking the lead at 8 pm and "Grey's Anatomy" coming in shortly by 9 pm. Other ABC shows set to premiere next month include "Good Doctor" on November 2, "Big Sky," on November 17, followed by "For Life" on November 18.

6 ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Storylines Affected by the Planned Season 17 Time Jump – TVInsider

ABC/Gilles Mingasson (2); ABC/Raymond Liu

Grey's Anatomy is going to be including the coronavirus in its upcoming 17th season, and the latest details reveal that in doing so, the premiere will pick up "a month and a half into full COVID."

While production shut down on Season 16 four episodes early, the finale did leave a few storylines up in the air. What we see next from at least some of them will be affected by this time jump, whether it's how it plays out onscreen, like for the relationships of Drs. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and Teddy Altman (Kim Raver), or what we'll now have to learn via flashbacks or in conversations, like Drs. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) and Atticus "Link" Lincoln (Chris Carmack) naming their baby.

Scroll down for the storylines we expect to play out a bit differently in Season 17.

Grey's Anatomy, Season 17, Fall 2020, ABC

As Season 16 came to an end, Teddy and Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) were about to get married until he learned of her affair with ex-boyfriend Dr. Tom Koracick (Greg Germann) via a voicemail she accidentally left him. He postponed the ceremony, ostensibly for work, but withGreys now picking up a month and a half later, Teddy will have to already know that Owen knows about Tom and the immediate fallout of that will have happened off-screen.

But how will quarantining and taking care of patients at the hospital affect the doctors? Will Teddy and Owen be living together with the kids? Will one be quarantining separately for the rest of the familys health and safety? Will there be some personal revelations as a result of whats happening in the world? Could personal relationships have been put on hold by the time we catch up to the doctors in the premiere? We likely wont be able to determine whats happened based on rings (or lack thereof), considering the doctors will be wearing PPE (personal protective equipment) at the hospital.

Meredith and Dr. Andrew DeLuca (Giacomo Gianniotti) hit a rough patch in Season 16, and at the end of the finale, his mental health was more important than their relationship status. But the hospitals new doctor, Cormac Hayes (Richard Flood), was also set up as a potential love interest for Meredith after Cristina sent him to her as a gift.

Flood has been promoted to series regular for Season 17, suggesting that there could be a full-blown love triangle coming. But with the time jump and the coronavirus storyline, chances are that what each doctor is doing to help and where theyre quarantining will be a factor in where we find the relationships in the premiere. Are Meredith and Hayes able to stay with their kids? Is DeLuca with Meredith or perhaps with his sister, Dr. Carina DeLuca (Stefania Spampinato, now a series regular onStation 19)? That may depend on the next storyline

The spinoff saw Carina telling her girlfriend, firefighter Maya Bishop (Danielle Savre), my dad has bipolar I, and my sweet baby brother has inherited it. Over onGreys, he hadnt received a diagnosis yet, and Carina had only suspected the reason for his recent behavior.

Well likely skip even more of that storyline, including what happened when Meredith took him home at the end of the finale, by picking up a month and half later. Sure, there could be some flashbacks, but those would be to provide context for what we see play out in the present-day scenes.

In the finale, Amelia gave birth to her and Links son, but his name wasnt revealed. With the month and a half jump, that boy is going to already have a name, so well miss out on that conversation onscreen (and a flashback after its revealed probably wont be the same), as well as the days following them bringing him home from the hospital.

Last season, Dr. Maggie Pierce (Kelly McCreary) reconnected with Dr. Winston Ndugu at a medical conference, and after that one episode, Anthony Hill has been upped to series regular for Season 17. That suggests that Winston does in fact make the move to Seattle that hed said he would. Their (potential) relationship had taken a backseat when her father, Dr. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.), fell ill and everyone worked together to determine his diagnosis.

With the time jump, we could possibly see Winston already in Seattle, instead of watching his arrival and what that means for him and Maggie play out onscreen in the beginning. Could they already be together when we see them for the first time in the premiere?

Richard and Dr. Catherine Foxs (Debbie Allen) marriage fell apart (making for a very awkward dinner) last season, but as he began his recovery from cobalt poisoning (as a result of a hip replacement), she had had a change of heart. The only problem is he hadnt. But just like his medical crisis led to her thinking about their future, might the coronavirus pandemic do the same for either of them?
