The anti-aging, longevity, and biohacking field is an area of research that focuses on the use of technology and science to improve human health and extend lifespan. It has been gaining traction in recent years as people become more interested in finding ways to live longer and healthier lives. The field encompasses a wide range of topics, including genetics, nutrition, exercise, and more. Researchers in this field are working to develop new technologies and therapies that can help people live longer, healthier lives.

In addition to researchers, there are influencers, investors, and other figures that are working to publicize the potential of what is possible with regards to reversing, slowing, or stopping the speed of biological aging. In this story, I would like to discuss notable figures within this field who have been in the public eye and what their contributions are. I would also like to discuss any holes in their work that is scientifically shaky.

David Sinclair is a professor of genetics at Harvard Medical School and a notable figure in the field of anti-aging, longevity, and biohacking. He has been studying the aging process for over 20 years and has made several breakthrough discoveries in the field of anti-aging. Sinclairs research focuses on the role of sirtuins, a family of proteins that play a key role in regulating cellular health and aging. He has also authored a book called Lifespan: Why We Age and Why We Dont Have To which discusses his research on aging and how it can be slowed down or even reversed.

Sinclairs research on sirtuins has shown that these proteins play a key role in regulating cellular health and aging. He has also published research stating that resveratrol, a compound found in red wine, activates sirtuins and can extend lifespan in yeast and other organisms. Whether this can be applied to humans is shaky, and there has been controversy regarding his promotion of resveratrol and more recently NMN or Nicotinamide mononucleotide which is a nucleotide used to improve mitochondrial health which decreases over time as people age. Questions regarding the experimental methodology used in his work have led to disagreements within the community regarding what supplements to actually take to reduce aging.

Sinclairs research has led to the development of several new therapies that have the potential to slow down or even reverse the aging process. His work has been widely recognized and criticized and he has received numerous awards for his contributions to the field of anti-aging research.

Peter Attia is a Canadian-American physician known for his work in longevity medicine. He is the founder of Early Medical, a medical practice that applies the principles of Medicine 3.0 to patients with the goal of lengthening their lifespan and simultaneously improving their healthspan. Attia has played a key role in promoting the benefits of nutritional ketosis, intermittent fasting, and strategic exercise as powerful tools for enhancing longevity. He is also the host of The Drive, one of the most popular podcasts covering the topics of health and medicine.

Peter Attia He has played a key role in promoting the benefits of nutritional ketosis, intermittent fasting, and strategic exercise as powerful tools for enhancing longevity. Attia has also been a pioneer in longevity medicine, applying the principles of Medicine 3.0 to patients with the goal of lengthening their lifespan and simultaneously improving their healthspan . He has also co-founded the Nutrition Science Initiative (NuSI), with Gary Taubes, with a primary focus on promoting research in the field of nutrition and tackling the growing health challenges linked to obesity, diabetes, and metabolic diseases.

Peters approach in my opinion seems to be the most realistic and approachable since it focuses on concepts such as diet, caloric restriction, protein and muscle to avoid saracopenia, and drills down to what specifically leads to death later in life.

Bryan Johnson is an American entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and writer who has made significant contributions to the field of biological longevity. He is the founder and CEO of Kernel, a company that aims to develop advanced neural interfaces to treat neurological diseases and enhance human cognition. Johnson is also the founder of OS Fund, a venture capital firm that invests in early-stage science and technology companies.

Johnson has been a controversial figure in the field of anti-aging, longevity, and biohacking. He has been known for his strict commitment to anti-aging and longevity, but he wasnt always focused on his health. The biohacker and entrepreneur says he used to overeat carbs late at night but now avoids refined sugars. Johnson has also been criticized for lending his scientific prowess to commercializing possible life extension products such as NAD boosters. Despite these controversies, Johnsons more recent work with Blueprint has led to greater popularization of the longevity field in recent times.

Blueprint is a protocol developed by Bryan Johnson and a team of doctors. The project aims to measure all of his 70 organs and then maximally reverse the quantified biological age of each. Johnson publicly documents his self-experimental protocols and results, allowing us to be passengers on his longevity journey. His work with Blueprint has led to the popularization of the longevity field despite it being scientifically shaky. The primary reason for this is because his work with Blueprint is a sample size of 1 which makes it difficult to generalize his work to the greater population. This, in addition to some of the inaccessible treatments and the use of hundreds of supplements, has led to the questioning of his methods by much of the scientific community.

Aubrey de Grey is an English author and biomedical gerontologist which is the field that concerns itself with aging who has made significant contributions to the field of biological longevity. He is the author of The Mitochondrial Free Radical Theory of Aging and co-author of Ending Aging. De Grey is known for his view that medical technology may enable human beings alive today not to die from age-related causes. If you have heard of the term escape velocity which has been coined by De Grey, then you should be familiar with this concept.

De Grey is the founder and chief science officer of the Methuselah Foundation, a non-profit organization that aims to extend healthy human lifespan. De Grey has also proposed a framework called Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence (SENS), which aims to prevent or reverse age-related damage in the body. The SENS approach involves repairing or replacing damaged cells, proteins, and other molecules in the body that contribute to aging. De Greys work has been widely recognized and he has received numerous awards for his contributions to the field of anti-aging research.

Matt Kaeberlein is another biologist and biogerontologist who has made significant contributions to the field of biological longevity. He is currently a professor of pathology at the University of Washington in Seattle. Kaeberleins research interests are focused on biological mechanisms of aging in order to facilitate translational interventions that promote healthspan and improve quality of life. He has published more than 200 scientific papers, has been recognized by several prestigious awards, and has Fellow status in the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the American Aging Association, and the Gerontological Society of America (GSA).

Kaeberlein is the founding Director of the UW Healthy Aging and Longevity Research Institute, the Director of the UW Nathan Shock Center of Excellence in the Basic Biology of Aging, Former Director of the Biological Mechanisms of Healthy Aging Training Program, and founder and co-Director of the Dog Aging Project. His work has led to several breakthrough discoveries in the field of anti-aging research. Kaeberlein has also been a pioneer in longevity medicine, applying the principles of Medicine 3.0 to patients with the goal of lengthening their lifespan and simultaneously improving their healthspan.

When it comes to the field of aging, we have so far been ignoring the significant strides made by Japanese researchers in the area of stem cells.

Shinya Yamanaka is a Japanese physician and researcher who has made significant contributions to the field of biological longevity. He is known for his work in stem cell research, particularly his discovery of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Yamanakas research has focused on the use of iPSCs to develop new therapies for a variety of diseases, including Parkinsons disease, Alzheimers disease, and spinal cord injuries.

Yamanakas contributions to the field of biological longevity are significant. His discovery of iPSCs has revolutionized the field of regenerative medicine by providing a new source of stem cells that can be used to develop new therapies for a variety of diseases. Yamanaka was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2012 for his work on iPSCs. His research has led to several breakthrough discoveries that have helped people live longer, healthier lives. Much of David Sinclairs work cites the work of Shinya Yamanaka.

It should also be noted that he is an advisor for Altos Labs which is developing life extension therapies and has been invested in by Yuri Milner and Jeff Bezos.

This is still a very new field, so it has a mixture of cutting edge research, noise, snake oil, and an unbelievably high amount of liquid cash due to aging and death being a universal experience. At the moment, I think that because of its universality that the field should be more discussed in common discourse. Like the space industry, AI, and nuclear fusion, I think this field has quite a bit of potential and its approach to medicine can change the face of modern healthcare.
