New Neuroprosthetic Approaches To Disorders Of The Nervous System
"New Neuroprosthetic Approaches To Disorders Of The Nervous System" Dr. Richard Normann Department of Bioengineering University of Utah Abstract: The development of new devices for interfacing to the central and peripheral nervous systems has greatly accelerated over the past two decades and many laboratories have begun to work in the emerging field of neural engineering. As these new devices have evolved, researchers have begun to explore their use as new therapeutic approaches to a number of nervous system disorders. I will review some of these new interface technologies and discuss a number of their potential applications: restoration of sight to the profoundly blind, control of external devices by volitional thought, restoration of stance and control of bladder function for paralyzed individuals.
