LAFCU focuses on employee health; partners with On Target Living – WSYM-TV

LANSING, Mich. LAFCU has partnered with On Target Living, a health and performance company, to provide virtual wellness resources for employees.

With the pandemic creating radical change in our lives, we knew we needed to provide additional health and well-being support for our employees, said LAFCU CEO Patrick Spyke. The On Target Living partnership provides tools to help our team stay healthy and less stressed.

Further, this is a quality program that employees can access virtually anywhere, anytime.

The On Target Living System offers health expertise, including nutrition guidance, fitness challenges and recovery and stress management strategies.

LAFCU employees can access the 21-step video course and downloadable OTL System manual via the OTL app. Other video content includes guided meditation, recipes and exercises, as well as live sessions. Infographics, information sheets and worksheets to track individual progress can also be downloaded. Theres also a podcast. New content is added weekly.

Chris Johnson, OTL founder/CEO, said, For LAFCU to be the best, its employees have to be the best. Thats how we can assist LAFCU. Our goal is to enhance focus, energy and drive through rest, eat and move tactics. In building a strong immune system were playing offense against disease and rising health care costs. Prevention is the future of health care.

There was a high level of interest among employees from the onset. The initiative was introduced to LAFCU employees by Spyke through two webinars and a Q&A session. It is now part of the Michigan credit unions health care program and is aligned with the employee assistance program.

I like it because its a total wellness system thats educational, said LAFCU Trainer Clare Gomez. It provides the science behind the recommendations. My family has a history of chronic disease. I hope to beat it by keeping my body in balance through the On Target Living tenets of rest, eat and move.

Gomez enthusiastically lives the program daily. She accesses it using the app on her phone and computer, and she casts OTL videos from her phone to her TV to watch with her husband and two children. She even won the Wellness Committees August Mental Health Challenge for using the relaxation techniques several times a day.

My diet was good, but I wasnt sleeping or exercising enough, and stress was a problem, she said. After just a few months I feel more energetic more in touch with my body. Im sleeping better, exercising more, and when I feel stressed, I know it. Then I pull up my favorite three-minute OTL meditation video to reel me back in.

Spyke said, There is much we cant control, so we looked at what we can control, and determined that information and inspiration from this program will better equip our staff to meet todays unprecedented challenges.

World Heart Day 2020: 4 healthy living habits to opt this World Heart Day – The Financial Express

You can start cardiovascular exercises on a daily basis, for example, 30 minutes five days every week, or 50 minutes three days per week.

By Namit Tyagi

The World Heart Federation has discovered that coronary illness and strokes are the worlds leading reasons for death. This Heart Day, we need to appreciate our heart more and adopt habits which benefit it. Our hearts work beat by beat, second by second for 24 hours a day, never resting. Over the average lifetime, our hearts beat about 2.5 billion times. Knowing that its one of the most vital organs keeping us alive, its important to treat it like the precious commodity it is.

Praise your heart by adopting healthy habits

Faulty eating, absence of exercise, irregular eating routine and hypertension, increased cholesterol and glucose levels are largely factors which can trigger coronary illness and cause problems in our lives, and those of friends and family. Heart Day was set up on September 29 to deliver the message that heart issues can be managed.

All you need is a thought that you will stick to healthy habits for the sake of your health. Healthy habits are not only important for heart health, they are equally important for overall health. You will be surprised to know how simple these habits are. Sometimes, we dont even pay attention to them. But once we start keeping them in mind and working on them, our heart will thank us in the longer run.

In case you are choosing to celebrate this day, it is essential that you are more mindful of your own heart health. There are various ways that you can do this. This includes following a healthy eating routine, stopping smoking, and engaging in physical activities. It is additionally important to have your cholesterol, pulse, and heart checked once in a while.

Apart from these, follow these habits to make your heart healthier:

Adopt healthy eating pattern

Most of us do not hesitate to order online when we feel hungry and thats very convenient. However, our eating pattern is suffering from irregularities due to our busy schedule and lifestyle. A lot of us are busy in work and household chores and get very little time to think about our eating habits. Due to easy availability of readymade food, we are consuming more saturated fats or trans fat. On the top of it, lack of exercising and movement is pushing us towards obesity which could lead to heart problems.

Make a routine, try to cook at home, minimize the use of processed foods and sweet foods, eat more vegetables and fruits and use healthy cooking oils, which mostly contain heart-healthy poly- and mono-unsaturated fats like Canola, Olive, Peanut, Soybean, Sunflower, Mustard oil to maintain your heart health.

Dont stress

Learning successful stress management techniques will keep your heart healthy supportive techniques can incorporate deep breathing, focused imagery and biofeedback training, which are all suggested by heart health experts. Nonetheless, day to day meditation or an ordinary relaxation practice class, for example, pilates or yoga can likewise be exceptionally beneficial.

Start getting quality sleep

We know that you must be busy but getting quality sleep is important, and should be on your list. Too much or too little sleep can significantly affect your heart health. Getting less than six hours of sleep a night has been proven to put your body under stress, increasing your risk of coronary illness or a stroke. Get the suggested eight hours of the night for an ideal heart health.

Exercise daily

You can start cardiovascular exercises on a daily basis, for example, 30 minutes five days every week, or 50 minutes three days per week. You can start running, swimming, brisk walking, riding a bicycle, playing b-ball or tennis, and working on your garden. Concerning quality structure exercises, in a perfect world, you should put aside two days every week for 30 minutes of exercise that works your muscles, for example, the legs, back, shoulders and arms. What comes under quality exercising? Lifting loads, doing bodyweight practices like yoga, push ups and sit ups, and even heavy gardening with a great deal of burrowing and scooping would help you in making your heart stronger.

If you decide, you can keep your heart happy and healthy from now on. Sticking to a routine can be challenging; however, once you start following the routine, you will thank yourself and so will your heart. This Heart Day, lets adopt these four healthy habits for the heart which has given you so much. It is our turn to thank it.

7 Tips & Tricks To Indulge Your Child Towards Healthy Eating And Living – Femina

So read ahead to know some tips and tricks that can help you promote a healthier lifestyle:

1. Set An ExampleImage: Shutterstock

Kids are mini versions of you. If they see you lazing around the house, having junk food, always into your phone or it can be as simple as not maintaining hygiene. Children learn by examples, so teach your kids by setting an example of your own. Indulge in healthy eating habits, bond together and exercise with them. Once they notice the amount of importance you place on a healthier and conscious lifestyle, they will slowly develop the habits as their own.

2. Cook And Exercise Together

If they help you in cooking meals, it can be as little as setting the table or handing you the ingredients, they will consider them a part of the whole process and will most likely eat the food they have help made. Similarly, put down your devices together and indulge in some offline detox before you sleep.

3. Snack Smart And Fix A Schedule

Now, we are all involved in having healthier main meal options, but interim snacks tend to get super unhealthy. Instead of unhealthy snacks, make tasty yet healthier options. You can make and store granola bars, make sandwiches or wraps from leftover veggies. Also, you can fix up a schedule for some cheat meals. Cheat meals once or twice a week are better than dedicating a day completely to cheat meals. Make an eating schedule beforehand for the week. Include their favourite options, light snacks, sugar treats, and healthy bites and let them decide which day they want what to eat!

4. Hide And Seek

Guise healthy ingredients in their favourite dish. Mask the flavour with a mix of ingredients to let them know they are having their favourite dish. For example, switch soy with potatoes in burger patty to make it healthier. Crush dry fruits and seeds and add them in the milk.

5. Balancing Is The Key

Enjoy ice lollies before a meal on a hot day, binging on nachos on movie night is okay. Don't get over paranoid or too strict. You don't want your kids to be deprived of these little joys and pleasures. Strike a balance with healthy food and treats, lazy Sundays and active on-the-go Tuesdays.

6. Talk It Out

Your kids must know the importance of a healthy lifestyle. And they shouldn't learn it from the science book, but you should introduce the importance at home. Simple things like sitting straight, brushing at night, having a proper sleep routine will help them in the longer run. Don't induce feat but talk about all the benefits they will reap in both the short and long run.

7. Be Patient With New Foods

When a child is growing, they are still trying to figure out their patterns, their appetite, taste, likes and dislikes. Sometimes they might not like something in the beginning but develop a taste later, so keep patient when experimenting or introducing new foods. Serve new foods along with your child's favourite foods. Keep serving your child healthy choices until they naturally form a part of his/herlikes.

Indian health platform wants to nourish mind, body and soul – CNN

But it has since transformed into one of India's top health platforms, with meal and grocery deliveries, online workouts, mindfulness classes, appointments at its health centers and even an online store for fitness gear.

The spread of coronavirus spurred the business to further reinvent itself, from one primarily reliant on physical gyms to an international online fitness platform.

This summer Cure.fit announced its digital expansion into the US, where it has begun offering online fitness and therapy sessions.

"Lockdown has expedited these efforts," Shamik Sharma, Cure.fit's head of international business, tells CNN Business. "When we saw the demand for our app in the United States, we launched rapidly," he adds.

Quick reaction to Covid-19

Like businesses all over the world, Cure.fit was forced to re-strategize in response to the pandemic.

Instead, lockdown has accelerated the company's pivot to online.

"When our gyms closed, we immediately knew that our customers would miss in-person classes so we created live classes through our app," says Sharma.

The Cure.fit app hosts more than 200,000 sessions daily in India, with instructor-led online classes ranging from strength to pilates, cardio and yoga.

During the pandemic, this platform has thrived. Since the start of India's lockdown, the company says it has signed up 1.5 million users in the country and amassed 100,000 paid subscribers since launching a paywall in May.

In the US, the company has reported 75,000 downloads since testing for the app began in May. Cure.fit currently offers its live sessions there for free, but plans to introduce a subscription model by the end of the year.

India's healthcare apps

This is primarily credited to technological advances, including falling device and mobile data costs, says Lalatendu Sahoo, a senior consultant at Netscribes.

"People are also becoming more and more health conscious," says Sahoo, particularly younger generations living in big cities. "They are more familiar with the internet, they're more comfortable with mobile devices ... and they are really trying to add the wellness factor into their day-to-day life," he adds.

Cure.fit wanted to attract this millennial market by selling a whole lifestyle through its range of food, therapy and fitness services.

"The idea was to build a one-stop solution for anything health and wellness," Ankit Nagori, who co-founded Cure.fit with Mukesh Bansal, tells CNN Business.

"We want to build a community of fitness enthusiasts who would like to lead a healthy lifestyle and promote healthy living," he adds.

Newest apartment building topping out at Water Street Tampa embraces wellness, healthy living – 83degreesmedia

Water Street Tampas newest jewel, a 23-story apartment complex that embraces Tampas vibrant native environment, has topped out. Leasing in the 388-unit tower at 1011 East Cumberland Avenue is expected to begin in 2021.

This newest complex, spearheaded by Tampa Bay Lightning owner Jeff Vinik and his Strategic Property Partners LLC, was designed by the New York City-based architecture firm of COOKFOX, which focuses on environmentally responsive designs, and on mental health and physical health. The design also includes 6,521 square feet of retail space.

The construction management firm, Moss, oversaw the construction of the tower.

As we reach this significant milestone for 1011 East Cumberland Avenue, we appreciate the monumental progress that is taking place each day to bring Water Street Tampa to fruition, says SPP CEO James Nozar. Reflecting our vision for the neighborhood, the building brings another architecturally distinct contextual and high-quality offering to Water Street Tampa.

The apartments, from studios to three-bedroom units, are located next to the University of South Florida Medical School, and near Orange Theory, Fabrica Pizza, Publix Greenwise, Sparkman Wharf, and Amalie Arena. Those who lease the apartments, which have floor-to-ceiling windows, will be offered an array of amenities, including cooking classes, bike tours, yoga and meditation classes, and other curated adventures.

We designed 1011 East Cumberland Avenue to create a true sanctuary for residents in Tampa by providing an active, design-forward and nature-connected living experience, says Darin Reynolds, a COOKFOX Architects partner. We are proud to be part of SPPs incredible vision for Water Street Tampa and to share this innovative biophilic building with the Tampa Community.

There will be a caf space connected to the buildings lobby with extensive outdoor seating, as well as other retail. A woonerf, an urban street design concept from the Netherlands, also called a residential yard, will surround the lobby to allow for shared space for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.
