Report: Cavs dont want to make a deal that might disrupt how special the teams … – Cavaliers Nation

The Cleveland Cavaliers continue to climb in the Eastern Conference standings, as the team is now third in the conference behind the Miami Heat and Chicago Bulls.

Chemistry has been a major part of the teams success. For that reason, the organization hasnt shown a desire to make any sort of move that could potentially disrupt the groups chemistry, according to The Athletics Jason Lloyd and Kelsey Russo.

Lloyd and Russo talked about what the Cavs might do at the deadline. Lloyd was quick to point out that any player the team trades for would need to fit in from a chemistry standpoint.

[Caris] LeVert makes a lot of sense, Lloyd wrote. Hes the right age, his contract is easy to absorb if the Cavs use [Ricky] Rubios contract as the vehicle to make the money work (theyd obviously have to include other assets) and LeVert likely wouldnt disrupt the chemistry the Cavs have right now. Thats a big deal in all of this. This team realizes how special this group is and they havent shown an inclination to do anything major that might disrupt it.

The Cavaliers have been led by Darius Garland, Jarrett Allen and rookie Evan Mobley in the 2021-22 campaign.

Trading for a player like LeVert would surely help the team overcome the loss of guard Collin Sexton, who was the teams leading scorer in the 2020-21 season.

However, the Cavs have already shown that they can win even with Sexton and Rubio done for the season, which may lead to the team standing pat at this years trade deadline.

LeVert has been solid for the Pacers this season. He is averaging 18.2 points, 3.7 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game while shooting 44.4 percent from the field and 32.7 percent from beyond the arc.

It will be interesting to see how the Cavs proceed for the remainder of the season, as they clearly have confidence in their current group of players.

Snowdrop Cast Shows Strong Chemistry Behind The Scenes – soompi

Snowdrop has shared new behind-the-scenes photos!

Directed and written by the SKY Castle team, Snowdrop is set in Seoul in 1987. It is about the love story between Su Ho (Jung Hae In), a student at a prestigious university who rushes into a womens university covered in blood one day, and Young Ro (BLACKPINKs Jisoo), a student at the womens university who hides and take care of him despite facing danger and close surveillance.

Ahead of the dramas finale, JTBC shared behind-the-scenes photos from set thatcapture the casts professionalism and dedication as well as their individual ways of preparing to film. The cast is shown reviewing the script together, double-checking their movements during rehearsals, and showing off their adorable chemistry.

The next episode of Snowdrop will show what happens when all the students in the dorm learn that Young Ro is the daughter of Eun Chang Soo (Heo Joon Ho), the ANSP director. On the other hand, Su Ho is given a command from North Korea to blow up the dorm and is told that his younger sister will die if he does not.Stay tuned to see how Su Ho and Young Ros relationship is affected by these tense circumstances.

Episode 14 of Snowdrop will air on January 29 at 10:30 p.m. KST. The final two episodes of the drama will air consecutively on January 30.

Professor’s invention is a kid-friendly introduction to the chemistry of light – UCLA Newsroom

If you know how to look, our world can be wildly colorful. Under an ultraviolet light, once-familiar objects can take on dreamlike brilliance: Think neon green scorpions, hot pink flying squirrels and electric blue diamond rings.

Known as fluorescence, this ability of certain molecules to absorb light in one colored wavelength and emit it in another is a phenomenon many scientists, including UCLA professor Ellen Sletten, are still exploring.

And a few years ago, Sletten devised a clever way to make her research into fluorescence more accessible to non-scientists: the Photonbooth. A clever twist on the traditional photo booth thats a staple of carnivals, arcades and parties, Photonbooth the pun in its name a reference to the fundamental particle of light has inspired hundreds of budding scientists to recognize that there is more to the world than what our eyes typically see, and that key scientific principles underpin everyones daily existence.

Its very clear right now, with the pandemic, that misinformation about science is dangerous for us all, says Sletten, a chemical biologist. Younger generations especially need us to focus on accurate, responsible scientific communication. Besides, everyone loves a photo booth, right?

The concept evolved out of an attraction from her 2015 wedding reception. To echo her engagement ring, which her fianc chose for its fluorescence (caused by a defect in the diamonds lattice structure), Sletten envisioned black lights installed in a standard photo booth with fluorescent props for guests to pose with. Her party-phobic father, an engineer, jumped at the chance to pay tribute to his daughters life work and to help turn her plans into a reality.

The Photonbooth was born.

It was such a huge hit, even with the nonscientists, Sletten says. I realized it was very synergistic with many of my labs research goals and could be a perfect avenue for science outreach.

When Sletten discussed the booth with members of her UCLA research team, her then-graduate student Rachael Day now a biochemistry professor at Drury University in Missouri was so inspired that she took it upon herself to build a version of the booth, and they immediately began using it at local parties and educational events, including Exploring Your Universe, UCLAs annual hands-on science fair.

A typical Photonbooth presentation begins with a quick science lesson demonstrating the fluorescent properties of common household items such as tonic water or detergent, followed by a discussion of the biomedical uses of fluorescence. Attendees next create their own glowsticks, enter the booth with whimsical props they choose and pose for photos, first under normal light and then, to best show off their fluorescent items, under a black light.

A lot of science especially chemistry, where everything is nanoscale or smaller can be difficult to comprehend, Sletten says. I really like using fluorescence because its so easy for kids to see. I also love how we can take something kids are familiar with, like a highlighter, and then help them realize there is this whole other side to it if they are curious enough to look and question.

Science education outreach is especially important to Sletten because it highlights the human connection that she says is so crucial to scientific progress. As she looks back on her labs first five years, she cites her relationship with her students and their growth among her most important accomplishments.

My students are amazing, and I try hard to be an effective mentor who gets to know each of them well, Sletten says. In many ways, starting a lab is like starting a small company. You go through all the challenges and problem-solving together, which makes for strong bonds. It has been incredibly rewarding to be a part of my students journeys to becoming excellent scientists and communicators.

At the same time, Sletten has attracted attention for the labs impressive progress toward developing diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. In 2020, she earned the Young Chemical Biologist Award from theInternational Chemical Biology Society, and in 2021, she received a grant from the Chan Zuckerberg Initiativefor her work on deep tissue imaging.

Sletten saysthe experience of children delighting in the Photonbooth experience mirrors the optimism she and her team share for the future of their own research.

When I think about the videos of molecules flowing within mice which our lab has been able to produce with previously unattainable speeds, colors and resolutions, I can relate to how those kids feel stepping in the Photonbooth, Sletten says. The opportunity to see something new, the feeling of discovery and fun I hope it inspires those kids to become science-savvy citizens or even future scientists.

Lakers News: LeBron James Looks Forward To Growing Big 3s Chemistry After Return Of Anthony Davis – LakersNation.com

The Los Angeles Lakers Big 3 has reunited for the first time in over a month, as Anthony Davis returned from his knee injury in Tuesdays win over the Brooklyn Nets.

Davis clocked in over 24 minutes at Barclays Center, scoring eight points, collecting two rebounds, and adding two assists, one steal, and four blocks. The 28-year-old All-Star moved well considering he had watched the previous 17 games from the sidelines.

LeBron James tried to get the forward involved from the very first second of the win against the Nets, sending a lob pass Davis finished with an alley-oop jam to get the Lakers on the scoreboard. After the game, James said L.A. benefits from the 28-year-old All-Stars mere presence on the court.

He just makes our team so much more complete, the four-time NBA champion said. Our length defensively, our ability to really get up in peoples faces because we know we got him at the rim, or our ability to switch a lot of things because he can literally guard one through five.

Offensively, it just attracts another set of eyes off of myself, off of Russ, off of Melo, off of Malik [Monk], off everybody because hes such a dynamic player.

The Tuesday win marked the 16th time the Lakers Big 3 played together in the same game due to James early-season injuries and Davis recent break. The 37-year-old superstar stressed the importance of the teams leading trio spending as much time on the court together as possible moving forward.

The more minutes that we log, we continue to see how dynamic we can be both offensively and defensively and it also puts everybody in their regular positions, James said. We just try to stay in rhythm as a team. We want to continue to work on habits, but along the way we want to win ball games as well.

We look forward to our next challenge playing against a great Philly team. Theyre playing exceptional basketball led by one of the hottest guys in the league in Joel [Embiid]. As we continue to get better, we continue to log these minutes and see what happens next.

Davis said his thoughts on the Lakers play he collected during knee rehab helped him prepare for the Tuesday comeback.

We struggled a little bit on defense, we wasnt talking. Guys werent in the right position so I tried to come in tonight and just quarterback the whole defense, Davis said.

And then also, the way we were playing offensively was really good. The things that we were doing, the adjustments that we made playing a five-out offense and guys running to set screens, Bron and Melo. It kind of confused people, so I tried to do the same thing in my first game back, wasnt trying to get into too many isos or force up shots, trying to screen, roll and get guys in positions where the entire team could be successful.

And I was able to do that tonight, we were able to do that tonight which led us to a win.

Kevin Love’s Relationship With Darius Garland Defines the Cleveland Cavaliers’ Unrivaled Chemistry – Sportscasting

The Kevin Love renaissance is a welcome development for the Cleveland Cavaliers. But while Loves on-floor excellence contributes to winning, his relationships with the younger players, notably Cavs guard Darius Garland, underscores the incredible chemistry powering Clevelands success.

Love has handed the reins to Garland, Evan Mobley, and Jarrett Allen. However, rather than being bitter about his new role, his willingness to take a back seat and empower the young guys has set the tone for one of the NBAs most surprising teams.

Kevin Love had only ever been a starter in his first seven seasons with the Cavaliers. But with Cleveland re-signing Allen and drafting Mobley No. 3 overall this past summer, the five-time All-Star saw a change on the horizon.

Love has not only embraced that change. Hes thrived.

The Cavs run high pick-and-roll with Garland and their two bigs. Theyll also set rubs for Garland to open up his playmaking abilities. Its a perfect system for a floor-spacing big like Love, who is making the most of his usage.

Love is shooting 40.2% from beyond the arc on 6.2 attempts per contest. He can spot up in the corners or slip-screen his way to open threes. That opens things up for Mobley, who can operate in the paint and flash to the middle for catches or make plays rolling to the bucket.

Simultaneously, when the defense offers help for either Garland or Mobley, Love usually gets open looks. He also creates offensive opportunities with dribble-handoff sets. Indeed, Love still looks to get teammates involved, averaging 3.6 assists per 36 minutes.

Still, while Loves import to the Cavs is evident on the floor, his connection with Garland most clearly defines the teams collective attitude.

Although Kevin Love has vented his frustrations and found his name thrown about in trade rumors in recent seasons, hes owned up to past mistakes and taken to a mentorship role, especially with Darius Garland.

Love considers Garland his little brother, per the Akron Beacon Journal. The two have cultivated something special, and Love appears to have instilled a sense of joy and work ethic in Garland, making Clevelands point guard a worthy candidate for the 2022 NBA All-Star game.

The liveliness and strong foundational bonds have rubbed off on Love. The 14th-year veteran also told JJ Redick on the Old Man and the Three podcast that he hasnt had this much fun playing basketball since the Cavaliers 2015-16 championship season.

We were a very, very close team in 15-16. Here you can just feel that we have a special group of high character individuals and really good communicators. You see that fromEvan,who just turned 20 years old, and all the way to[Rajon Rondo]. You dont get that often. Its really fun. Just want to bottle that up.

Nicknames like Old Man and Uncle Kevin dont seem to bother Love. Conversely, hes looked at them as terms of endearment. That energizes both Love as well as his teammates.

With the Cavs young core excelling and Love providing leadership off the bench, is Cleveland ready to contend?

Some fans might wonder whether the Love and the Cavaliers have enough on the current roster to remain squarely in the playoff picture. Theres actually an argument that Cleveland is one of the most dangerous teams in the NBA.

The Cavs rank third in the league in defensive rating and fourth in net rating. They have tremendous size with Mobley and Allen in the frontcourt, and that size becomes all the more consequential in the playoffs. The ability to bring Love off the bench is a true luxury given his rebounding, shooting, and exceptional outlet passes.

Is there room for another scorer and secondary playmaker? Garland spearheads an offense that moves the ball well. Cleveland ranks eighth in the NBA in assists. Still, the court tends to shrink in the playoffs, and the Cavaliers could probably use another bucket-getter to alleviate some of the responsibilities on Garland. Maybe a potential Collin Sexton return solves that issue.

Regardless, Love and the Cavs excel both on and off the floor. That locker-room chemistry might serve as a crucial intangible come playoff time.

LSU chemists discover way to improve biofuel and biomaterial production – Greater Baton Rouge Business Report

Globally, sustainable energy is in demand, and plant biomass has been a front-runner as a renewable resource.

Until now, physical and chemical interactions in plant biomass had been a challenge in post-harvest processing, but LSU Department of Chemistry associate professor Tuo Wang and his research team of graduate students have discovered new information that can aid in the development of better technology to use biomass for energy and materials.

The team revealed how carbohydrates interact with lignin to form plant biomass, and the new information has revised the research of plant biomaterials, according to a report from LSU Chemistry.

Biofuels have made headlines elsewhere in Louisiana, with Gov. John Bel Edwards announcing last June that Delta Biofuel was evaluating Iberia Parish for a planned $70 million biomass fuel pellet plant.

The pellets, made from sugarcane fiber, would source fiber from mills in Iberia, St. Mary and St. Martin parishes, allowing alternative use of the mills unneeded waste.
