2012 Innovation - Discovery Awards
Christopher McMaster, Ph.D., is the Carnegie and Rockefeller Professor and Chair of Pharmacology at Dalhousie University, co-director of the Cheminformatics Drug Discovery Lab at the IWK Health Centre and co-founder of the Halifax-based biotechnology company DeNovaMed. He is a shining example of a science innovator. In his research and entrepreneurial guises, Dr. McMaster is at the forefront of research that seeks to harness gene sequence and protein modeling technologies to design drugs that are very specific in their action and which are directed at widespread problems. These include antibiotic resistant "superbugs" such as methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (aka MRSA), as well as #39;orphan diseases #39; -- diseases that are very rare and typically incurable. His innovative approaches have been well funded, including nearly $5 million from Genome Canada. Dr. McMaster has twice been ranked first in national salary award competitions and first in Nova Scotia as a Clinical Research Scholar. Also featured in this video: Srinivas ("Srini") Sampalli, Ph.D., professor in the Faculty of Computer Science, Dalhousie University and Gary Humphries (BComm #39;71), Trans Industrial Packaging, pioneered the development and commercialization of a unique thermal sustainable packaging format dubbed Thermafresh trade;.From:discoverycentre1593Views:0 0ratingsTime:06:07More inScience Technology
