The actress says understanding the success of the show which was renewed for season 21 earlier this month and launched two spinoffs Private Practice and Station 19 is easy, explaining, [Creator] Shonda Rhimes is a great writer. Second, Taylor Swift named her cat after Meredith Grey! Just kidding. It is because of our awesome fans.

Fans couldnt seem to get enough of watching the trials and triumphs of OG interns Meredith Grey (Pompeo) Alex Karev (Justin Chambers), George O'Malley (T.R. Knight), Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl) and Christina Yang (Sandra Oh) after the premiere in March 2005.

I remember actors arriving at work shaken because theyd been chased by paparazzi, which felt really weird for a TV show that wasnt Friends, Rhimes, 54, recalls. I always says that if you watched Greys every Thursday night, you spend more time with Meredith and Cristina as your friends than you did with anybody else in your life.

Wilson, who has played Dr. Miranda Bailey since the beginning, adds, [Early on] fan interactions would have to come from the mail that would show up at the studio. And that was how you knew that somebody was relating to the character, and then you send back a note. But with social media, there was the immediacy of being able to talk with the fans and hear what theyre personally interested in.

Rhimes and the cast saw that the real-life impact of the shows storylines. Camilla Luddington, who has starred as Jo Wilson since season 9, explains, After Silent All These Years [the season 15 episode about sexual assault] aired, within the first 48 hours of that airing [calls to] RAINNs sexual assault hotline that we gave the number out for increased by something like 43 percent.

To see that effect in the real world after we play these storylines out feels so powerful and incredible to be part of, but when were shooting it, I try not to think about all the eyes watching and just be in the moment, she adds.

James Pickens Jr, who plays Dr. Richard Webber, shares, Im most proud of how we look at Webbers whole alcoholism thing. The writers did it in a way that was so respectful, and it was able to resonate with a lot of people. I still have to this day folks who will come up and say, Ive been in the program, and your character was very inspiring for me.

The show also sparked women to follow in the footsteps of Meredith Grey and pursue a career in medicine. Ive met women whove said, Greys Anatomy made me realize that I could be a doctor, executive producer Betsey Beers says.

That people watch the show and then lots and lots and lots of young women went into science is incredible to me, and I think that its such a gift thats given back to me, Rhimes adds.

Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes hired security after death threats – Digital Spy

Posted: April 19, 2024 at 2:44 am

Greys Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes has revealed that she hired private security for her house following death threats from fans of the show.

The writer has a wealth of hit shows under her belt, including Greys, Scandal and, most recently, Bridgerton.

In an interview with The Sunday Times to promote the upcoming third season of the Netflix period drama, Rhimes opened up about how her shows have evoked intense reactions from viewers online.

"Social media changed," she said. "Fans have passionate feelings, and I was always fine with that. I understand that the characters felt like their friends. They were my imaginary friends too. Thats why I was writing them. And I think people just had very strong feelings about what happened with their friends. But then it became weird."

Rhimes revealed that after every season finale of Greys Anatomy, she received death threats from fans who were unhappy with how she had ended the episode. As a result, she had to have a police car parked outside her house for a week each time.

"They got mean," she explained. "And you never knew who was going to really take offence in the wrong way."

Things then escalated even further, as Rhimes eventually had to employ private 24-hour security for her Los Angeles home, with the producer explaining that it was "because people are dangerous and strange".

Rhimes shared that her children were behind her decision to introduce these measures to protect her safety.

She said: "I wanted to just be able to walk out my front door and hang out with my kids and not be worried. I would lay awake at night with stress. I had some very helpful friends whod had similar experiences, who were able to give me a lot of perspective, and who were adamant that if you cant live normally then youre not going to be able to live."

In the same interview, Rhimes revealed that the one British series she wishes she had created is Doctor Who, saying, "I have been obsessed with that show forever."

Bridgerton seasons 1-2 are streaming now on Netflix, along with Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Season 3 premieres in two parts, on May 16 and June 13.

Grey's Anatomy season 20 and Station 19's final season are airing on ABC in the US. Both shows stream on Disney+ in the UK.

Anatomy of a Fall Actor Samuel Theis Accused of Rape by Crew Member on New Film – Yahoo Movies Canada

Posted: April 19, 2024 at 2:44 am

The French actor-director maintains encounter was consensual, was ordered to direct the rest of the film remotely

French actor-director Samuel Theis has been accused of rape by a crew member on his latest directorial project, Je Te Jure (translation: I Swear).

He is best known for his role as Samuel Maleski in the recent Golden Globe-winning film Anatomy of a Fall.

Variety reports that the French newspaper Librationreported on Friday that the alleged assault took place at a party where production rented an apartment on July 1, 2023.

The Je Te Jure crew member alleges that he was too inebriated to consent to a sexual encounter with Theis. The crew member alleges that he spent the night in the rented apartment and alleges the following morning he was raped by Theis. Per Varietys reports, Theis said their encounter was consensual.

Theis attorney, Marie Dos, told Variety she hasnt been contacted about an ongoing investigation and isnt aware of an official complaint.

The only investigation on this case was ordered by the production and carried out by an independent organization. It was delivered in September and it was 300 pages long the conclusion is that there were no elements qualifying what happened of a sexual assault, Dos told Variety. She also shared that a witness alleges Theis and the accuser were in a tender moment.

Following the interaction, the crew member immediately quit the production, according to Screen Daily, per Telerama. The sudden departure then led the films Avenue B Productions to monitor the remainder of the production. Avenue B Productions producer Caroline Bonmarchand told Variety the company then recruited an outside organization to conduct an internal investigation within the cast and crew.

Bonmarchand and her team met with crew members and cast members and chose to proceed with the final weeks of the production, per Variety. The production continued with the presumption of Theis innocence until proven guilty. However, Theis was instructed he would need to complete the project remotely and not have any contact with the cast or crew.

He directed the production with the use of monitors and those who wanted to see Theis were permitted to do so, per IndieWire.

Theis starred in Justine Triets Anatomy of a Fall as the husband of Sandra Hllers character, who went on trial for his murder. On Sunday, the film won the Golden Globes for best screenplay and best non-English language motion picture.

Representatives for Theis and Avenue B did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

The Anatomy of a Swing State The Biden vs. Trump Rematch April 17th

Bottom Line: With both major party nominations for President wrapped up and an apparent 2020 presidential rematch ahead of us its time for the fifth installment the Anatomy of a Swing State series. In this series I analyze traditional swing states which will likely prove pivotal in determining the presidential outcome in November. This cycle well have a rematch for the first time since 1956 and the seventh time overall. History has generally proved favorable for the challenger in presidential rematches. The loser in the first election matchup has won the rematch on four occasions with incumbent president winning out just twice. Due to the rematch, lets first start with an overview of where the candidates stand today compared to Election Day 2020 using the RealClear Politics polling average nationally.

What we currently see is an 7.4% shift to the advantage of Donald Trump. This type of swing in the electorate would clearly have a profound impact on the election outcome if it were to be held on Election Day. These are the states that Joe Biden won by 7-points or less in 2020:

Those are currently the key swing states to watch in this cycle. The expectation would be that Trump would be able to retain the states he won four years ago with the question being whether hed be able to flip enough swing states back his way from President Biden to win the Presidential election. President Biden has improved his standing against former President Trump for the third straight week. In so doing its removed one state, Maine, from being a potential swing state that that would appear to be in play as of today.

As of today, the RealClear average of state polls shows...

For a fourth straight week President Biden has narrowed his polling deficit to former President Donald Trump, however there wasnt an impact that would appear to affect the standing of either candidate in any of the swing states. As of today Trump is shown in the lead with a 293 to 245 vote advantage in the Electoral College. No doubt a lot will change between today and Election Day in November, however the former and perhaps future President of the United States is currently the best positioned to win.
